Guys, You have probably seen this Jeffery on Gunbroker... http://www.gunbroker.com/Aucti....aspx?Item=230510021 Cheap enough but looks like their are serious issues on the "face". Possible weld and grind? Those who know more than me care to comment? The rifle was made for Lyon & Lyon Calcuta, and that is the reason for pitting on the face of the action.India is wet a lot of the year. However the rifle has been dragging the firing pins enough to dig into the extractor, and the disk bushings have been peened to avoid them turning out. See the grooves in the extractor below! http://pics.reedssports.com/gb/103538210.JPG The rifle has been re-stocked but looks like a well done job, and is very nice wood, and recoil pad install. If this rifle shoots well most of the things I can see are minor. The only thing that worries me is the statement that the rifle is sold "AS IS No refunds"! Most sellers offer a three day inspection, this could mean a lot, or nothing. With out actually handleing the rifle myself I would not venture quoting a fair price for this rifle. It looks good, and is a trim rifle while most 450/400s are a little over weight. This one looks to be in the 10 pound range but you know what pictures weigh! The 450/400NE 3 inch is my all time favorite chambering for a double rifle! More than that I can't say! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

I emailed the seller and he said he would give a three day inspection. A must on this gun. The face issues can be put right. Weld and grind as you say. Whoever peened the striker bushings didn't have a clue. Peening on the seam does nothing to prevent backout other than buggering the thread interface. Would have been better to gently peen the last thread on the bushing so the thread would be tighter on the last few degrees of tightening. Also imperceptable and no mod to the action itself. It got to $7777 on the first go so no clue what the reserve could be.

I always learn something on Ar... thanks for the responses. email them and ask what is the reserve. I have done it several times. Sometimes they will tell you and sometimes they will not. It would save time for both of you. BUTCH C'est Tout Bon (It is all good)

My spin is that is an extractor gun in a bit rough/non original condition. Yes, it does have the Jeffrey's name. That being said, I would be surprised if it fetches $10,000 with it's "issues". Deo Vindice, Don Sons of Confederate Veterans Black Horse Camp #780

Sad to see a rifle like that without the traditional English walnut stock! My dream DR caliber though! "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

Not to completely jack this thread, but I don't see anywhere really more appropriate to ask this question: If I buy a gun from from somewhere like Gunbroker online, can I ship it to somebody else?? I live in the UK (I am American, just work here)and am thinking of buying a rifle online. I would want to send it to my father in law in Maine to sort it out for me. He has a shooting bench on his back porch. Backstop is 1000 acres of timber... Once I get the gun on my certificate here, I will pick it up from him the next time we go back to visit and hand carry it here. So, can I do that? Can I buy it online, ship it to a FFL dealer near him and have him pick it up?? Thanks! H. Cole Stage III, FRGS ISC(PJ), USN (Ret) "You do not have a right to an opinion. Shouldn't be an issue. I have had guns sent to my gunsmith simply because with just a three day inspection period, it can be difficult to get a gun thoroughly checked out in a timely manner. With the laws the way they are, I would think that the majority of the guns sold on the web are shipped to someone other than the actual purchaser.

Look to me like American Black Walnut with some staining or may be the light for the photo makes it look yellowish. Certainly not English or Turkish walnut IMO. "When the wind stops....start rowing. When the wind starts, get the sail up quick."

Looks worn and not a good re-finish, 10K would be high, my opinion.
