Stephen Lang Best Quality Double rifle- .500 express,26" damascus barrells with 98% original fine pattern, bores are absolutely mint shiny,extractors,1 fixed sight for 50yds and 1 flip up express sight for 150yds,ramp front sight, full side lock, black powder proofs, reciever has 90% coverage with scroll engraving, no animals just heavy scroll,no case colors so I assume it is a coin finish???,does not look like it was ever case colored as there is none in the protected areas??? makers name and address on the barrels and reciever, wood is 98% original finish(appears to be hand rubbed oil), wood will grade 2aa some figure but mostly straight grain, vurtually no scratches wood should grade 98%,cheek piece, checkered butt and 20 lines per inch checkering on the forearm and buttstock, blued triggered guard 99% blue, cased in an original oak and leather case with makers name in it along with assorted tools and oil bottle, case is original and would grade very good but it has done some traveling. I am trying to help a friend who just inherited this and would like an insurance value and an approximate value if he were to sell it. I am sure he will end up selling it as he has no interest in collecting or hunting. I am sure it will be out of my price range. It came from his great uncle that traveled the world and hunted around the world from the late 40's through th late 60's. Can't put pics on not sure how. I held the gun this weekend and am quite familiar with guns but don't have a clue as to how to value this.My description is very accurate and not stretched. Gun came with a 1920 catalog that showed an exact match to this gun priced at L130 then.I am sure it has been fired, but very few times and has been well cared for all its life. I really don't see how to could be any better unless it had a hang tag on it and I inherited it.Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Wesley

Pictures would help a lot. With a gun of this type and condition, there are just too many variables that have a significant impact on value to judge without handling it. I'd get it to someone who deals in such rifles on a regular basis for evaluation.

Sorry guys the rifle is 200 miles away. When I has there this weekend I handled it and made the notes for the description but had know way to take digital pics. Maybe I can get some this weekend or the next.I realize pics would help but the description is accurate, I have collectd Winchesters and Parkers for 20 yrs but double rifles are not my field. Several people PM'ed me about the bores and they are as MINT as the day the gun left the factory. Also there is not a loose area anywhere it is tight as the day it was made.I researched threads here and checked all areas and ways recommended here for loose fit. Will work on the pics. Thanks for all replies.

As has been stated, it's hard to tell without pictures.

One suggestion may be to consign the gun with one of the honest dealer out there. This is how I sell most of my guns these days. Sure, the dealer gets a cut, but almost always get what im asking. People know which dealers carry these types of items. If you dont make progress on your own, it may be worth considering. Just a thought

A few more comments.

1) High original condition means a lot
2) The amount of engraving will be important
3) The fact that it has tools (the original mould as well I hope) and is cased is a big plus.

Sounds nice.
