I purchased this rifle back in Aug, while in Ft Worth. But this was my first time home to actually see it, other than the 15 min I drooled on it at Cabelas.

I tried to take as many photos as I could, so people who've not seen a Sabatti can get a glimpse of it.

This is how it arrived at my FFL, decent plastic case, the barrel, and action were in bubble wrap sleaves, but I tossed them after opening it.

I tried to get a photo of the sights, its the only thing I don't really love about the gun, as they're not the "express" sights I had my heart set upon. But I think they'll do. If not, I'll have a proper set fitted later.

Bottom metal

And regulation target. I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that.

Been waiting a long time to have one I could call my own.

45-70

I choose it because I'm deployed quite a bit (even now) and so I wanted something I could easily buy the regulated ammo for while I'm home to hunt or just shoot for fun.

Eventually I'll get a proper caliber rifle, but it'll do for now.

Theres nothing wrong with the old 45-70 as long as you use it for the game it is suited to! I have several rifles chambered for 45-70 and they are fun and cheap to shoot, and are well suited to close in woods for just about anything in North America with the right bullet and load. Especially good for Moose!

.........Congratulations beerand welcome to DRSS!

Nice rifleSmiler
When you come back home we will line up a double rifle shoot at Birchwood. My shoulder should be healed by then and with luck my 450/400 will be finished as well.
Welcome to the DRSS!
Don't be troubled by the sights, easy fix. I have yet to buy any double rifle that didnt have something that needed to be fixed or changed to fit the owner.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost.

Thanks for the pictures. That is the latest Sabatti model in .45-70, the one tested by latest issue of Guns magazine, as opposed to the earlier model .45-70 with color case hardened receiver (also available in 9.3x74R). These models have the much nicer receivers, with the nice CNC cut engraving, and are much like the Sabatti big bore models, but with scaled down receiver. Sights on these smaller models are not as traditional in style as are the bigger model. Both this model, and the larger model have what looks like satin brushed stainless steel receivers, but it is not stainless. I had my larger model, in .470 and .500, examined by stainless steel specialists; they tested it, and found it to NOT be stainless (some stainless steel is magnetic, and some is not---some stainless is only semi stainless---Searcy is only double rifle maker I am aware of that makes its receivers from stainless). After further testing, it was determined that the receivers are not of carbon steel either, as suggested by some, but are of a high grade modern alloy steel, probably similar to 4140, heat treated (very hard and tough), and coated with some sort of plating, not chrome, as suggested by some, but more like a satin stainless steel high grade electroplating, giving it superb protection inside and out against elements. The engraving is CNC cut from an original engraving design by the italian named on the receiver, and is the best machine engraving I have yet to see on any double rifle, deep enough to last forever, of oak leaves and vines, with arcaded fences on larger model. My hats off to the Italians, they know their steels, and know how to use them!

AK_Stick - Welcome to the very unofficial Sabatti DR club.

doubleriflejack - Thanks for posting the info on the Sabatti metal; very interesting. Once again, the facts seem to fly in the face of the Sabatti critics.

Lion hunter

Where has the metal come up in our criticism ?

Stop changing / deflecting the discussion points.

Most of what he posted I found out last year at Shot Show but it is good info anyway
and as expected. Guns with crap metal don't generally pass proof and the Italians have been making guns for so long, they should know what they are doing.

This certainly is a beautiful rifle. I looked at the "Basic" 45-70 and although it fit me quite well I really wanted the more "Classic" look like your rifle here and am pleased that these will be available.

I am likely more interested in a 9.3X74R though and basically think that for the North American hunting I will be doing this caliber will be about as good as a 450/400.

I would appreciate any thoughts.

Thanks.
