Big Old Ducks!

Photographed a couple of big old ducks today, and ended-up shooting another. It's been really hard to get close to shooters, due to the flogged-out country and the big numbers congregating on the remaining water. Happily for all of us, we've had our first storms, and although the wet hasn't arrived yet, the first new grass won't be too far away. I actually thought this one was a bullock, but nope - just a big old girl. I was thinking about doing some kind of cheeky headline like, "102 point buffalo shot!" to see how many could tell the difference in the initial photos, as to my eyes at least she seems to have a fair bit of mass for a chook. But when you get to the photos of the rifle and ammunition, you see her for what she is - a grand old cow. Got nice and close in a small stand of tea tree, too, about twenty metres, and took her completely by surprise. Two perfect shots. She didn't go more than twenty metres.

Thanks, fellows. The double is just a humble Merky .500NE, the best this teacher could afford at the time. But, aside from a couple of issues now fixed, she shoots like stink and has a long list of scalps!

Yep, Adam, still out in God's Country! Pretty over Katherine, and really want remote teaching to be a career change for good.
