Need some help. I currently use my RCBS Rockchucker Supreme to load for the 450 NE. The question is regarding primer tools. I have been using the primer tool on the press itself with many broken parts and problems occurring frquently. The head that holds the cartridge case will not fit on my RCBS hand press. What primer seating toold do you use ? What have you found to be the best tool ?

Which hand priming tool do you use specifically? Is it a newer or older model.

I use the RCBS hand priming (Midsouth Shooters Supply Item: 044-90200)tool for my 450-400 with success. I use the same shell holder that I use in my Lyman press. It is supposed to accept any shell holder from a standard press. I have used Lyman, Hornady and RCBS shell holders without issue.

Lee Auto Prime 2. Everything else comes up short. I've been using it for 8 years or more, nothing breaks and it is foolproof and simple, quick and easy. No other choices in my opinion, Can be used up to the .600 and if you modify the diameter of the ram to push in a shotgun primer you can load up to 4-bore.

I load 450 NE with a RCBS hand primer. It sounds like the same model you have but i don't have any problems. I have only had it for about 6 months so it is newer. I use a hornady shell holder

The 90200 is very similar to if not the same thing I have.Is the shell holder for the 450 NE different than regular shell holders. Since it fits your rockchucker I would expect it to be standard sized.

I wish I could see how it didn't fit.

I agree. For large brass the RCBS bench tool is great. I use one for my 450/400 3".

+ me. I have used the RCBS Bench Tool on everything from .257 Roberts to .577 NE with no issues (other than having to periodically tighten the lever bolt down as it loosens with use).

Huntingtons does list a custom shell holder for the 450/400 3". It is made by RCBS. Are your case rims finicky at all?

Just a thought.

It's a thicker rim than the 450 NE so it'll be better.

Mike:

I am scratching my hear here too. I also have a Rockchucker Supreme and have no trouble loading any or my rimmed double rifle cartridges either. bewildered
