I own a Chapuis UGEX in 9.3X74R. I like the rifle. Well made, shoots great! Rusty We Band of Brothers! DRSS, NRA & SCI Life Member "I am rejoiced at my fate. Matts, The price is OK, it's not a bargain by any means. Anyway, for the dollar the Chapuis is a fine weapon. The more popular calibers would be the 7x57R, 7x65R, and the 9.3x74R. All of these calibers will work well for what you are going to hunt as the 8x57jrs will also. If it were a 9.3x74R for that price it would be a much better deal. A quick note that 1)the Chapuis is not made in 7x57R, 2) 8x57R is far more popular (based on factory orders) than the 7x65R, and 3) although the 9.3 is more popular in the US than the 8mm, the 8x57R is still very popular in Sweden and all of Europe. Quality....excellent gun for the money. Price....hard to compare the price in Sweden with the US, but I can say you will not be able to buy a new Chapuis UGEX for $4400 in the US with our weak dollar. Bauer Johann: Chapuis have a good reputation. Sounds like a reasonable price for a double. That model is certainly handsome, and there are no flies on the 8X57JRS. I'm sure it would serve for the game you are after. I see it is avaliable in 9.3X74R as well. Perhaps a slightly better moose load. But not as flat shooting as the 8X57JRS.. (I have an ancient J.P. Sauer, 8X60RS. It is an exceptionally nice rifle. But probably no better than that Chapuis!) "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."

Im out after a 8x57, it is the caliber that suits me ! Low recoil and a fast second . Gone be used on short distance! Moose is not a hard killed animal, red deer and wild bore is more difficult ( my oppinion)! Is Merkel 141 a better choice ? It is 1000USd more expensive than the Chapius, is it better spendt money ? Either one will be OK but buy the gun that you like the best. Try and handle both at the same time. Chapuis has slightly longer barrels Chapuis has a longer LOP Chapuis will weigh more Merkel has a set trigger Merkel has some adjustment for re-regulation. I could not make up my own mind and have one of each Ken DRSS, PP Chapter Life NRA Life SCI Life DSC

I have a Merkel 2020 Express O/U rifle in 8X57JRS which has been scoped for me by JJ.Perodeau in Enid OK. It is an excellent Big Game Rifle for anything in this hemisphere. I have a 9,3X74R in a Merkel S/S and in a O/U made by Hyem I finbd the 8X57rjs most comfortable to use over the 9,3X74R's. Just my opinion.rjs
