After a late lunch on Sunday I grabbed my Searcy .450/.400 3" and headed down to a friend's place who has too many hogs around. I didn't get there until about 4:00 p.m. and after a hello to the landowner, I got back into my truck and rode down to a crossroads in the woods. I took the rifle out of my Americase, assembled it, put in two 400 grain Woodleigh softs and began to slip along a woods road toward a hardwood swamp.

Sixty yards from where I parked the vehicle, the pine hill dropped off a foot or so into a 200 foot-wide strand of water oaks and myrtles before you got into the classic cypress and tupelo quagmire that graced about half of my buddy's property.

It was mighty pretty looking down the strand and I stopped a moment to survey it. I'd been out of the truck all of three minutes. Dang if about 20 hogs didn't materialize to my right, all coal black and feeding my way.

I dropped to one knee and when they got to 40 yards shot a sow without piggies through both shoulders for a DRT. All 19 remaining hogs began to run towards my left. I swung on another "eater" (a boar this time) and gave it a left barrel, hitting it at the last rib and breaking the far shoulder. He ran about 10 yards and flipped end-over-end into the ditch which bordered the road. Fun, fun stuff!

That is damn cool. Good shooting. Looks like the weather was real nice too. I'm going to be taking my boys hog hunting this spring here in California. The oldest wants to use his bow, should be fun.

Congrats Judge!

Ain't DRs and piggies fun? Never had the chance to hit two piggies with one, but did find that the 93,74R delivers the DRT thing pretty well ;>Wink

WTG Judge, nice looking eatting pigs. Never worry about shooting a sow with piglets, they will survive. I had rather shoot sows than boars anyday.(unless they have BIG cutters)

I killed them on "consignment" for a barbeque that some clients of mine are having tonight. I'll ride by this evening after work and check to see if they know what they are doing. We had one heck of a year for acorns, so they probably will be more than fine.

Sorry to have to say it, but with a decent bolt rifle, and enough open ground, a good shooter could have brought four or five hogs to bag instead of a mere two. Wink

Maybe I just have to get some of this stuff in the right flavor . . .
