OK, looking for a good "do-it-all" rifle for going out hunting everything from squirrles/rabbits up to deer and feral hogs - here in Florida. I'm thinking that a double rifle in .308 or /30-06, plus a 12gauge or 20 gauge would do the trick - this way I can load it up with good medium game rifle round, and a game round (#6-#8 shot) for smaller game. Any suggestions for an inexpensive double rifle that meets these criteria? And can you mount a low-power optic on it as well? _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorius triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat. - Theodore Roosevelt

John I have both a Blaser D 99 Duo in 9,3x74Rx9,3x74Rx20ga and one in 308x308x20ga. Both of them are very accurate and take the same scope mount as the R 93. They also make the D 99 Duo in 30-06 as well. They are a most excellent hunting rifle. I would contact Aleko at Heritage Arms in Salt Lake City. He is great to deal with. Eric, What you are looking for is a drilling and they are abundant from middle Europe (Germany & Austria) take a look a www.bobjonesguns.com and a number of other sites, including Sauer and various Ferlach guns, including the now-closed Franz Sodia factory -- and take your time. Many pre-war drillings are in 16x16 over whathaveyou rifle barrels. But this takes lots of due diligence! Best, Tim

John A drilling or combination gun (BBF) sounds more appropriate than a double rifle. Post again on https://forums.accuratereloading.com/eve/forums/a/frm/f/335105333 - you will get all of the answers you desire! Be warned though, one day you will look down and realise that in your hands you hold one tool that 'does it all', only weighs 7.5lbs and allows you to hunt with style. That day, the bulk of your gun collection becomes obsolete! Rgds Ian Just taking my rifle for a walk!........

if you are doing a lot of bird shooting you want a double shotgun unless you are an expert one shot marksman. if most of your hunting requires a reliable rifle consider a double rifle drilling - two rifle barrels over a shotgun. it makes a hog gun extraordonaire. and if bought in 9,3 x 74r you can use it for your african hunting too. easily scoped with factory swing mounts. i sell merkels at 20 % off list price . you can get a double 30-06 or 9,3 x74r over 20 magnum for only $7,200 ! that's a deal for a real gun. tom 814 859 0008 ftondrus@hotmail.com

Go and handle the Kreighoff Drilling 16gax16ga over 30-06 It is without a doubt the best pointing gun of any sort I have handled. Never fired it but I think it would be a kitten. The others brands I have seen have tended to be a bit out of balance with the weight too far forward. Good luck Ian

"an inexpensive double rifle that meets these criteria?" Well, not knowing your definition of "inexpensive", I'm tempted to say the same thing the farmer exclaimed upon viewing his very first giraffe..."there ain't no sech annymal".... However, I undestand that the double rifle Remington promised us about ten years ago is now available in limited numbers, chambered for .30/'06. It is a Russian clunker, and certainly not in the "decent double rifle" category, but it might serve your needs.... IF you have a little more to spend, then the suggestion of a Drilling is certainly exactly right! "Bitte, trinks du nicht das Wasser. Dahin haben die Kuhen gesheissen."
