A slippery slope indeed. You may have just made a VERY expensive mistake, akin to my $50 DGJ subscription leading to $XXXXX rifles! Have fun. Cal is a great guy. I usually shoot there once a month or so and always have a good time. DRSS "If we're not supposed to eat animals, why are they made out of meat?" "PS. 4 bore? Take a picture of you shooting it. I think you may be in for some impressive recoil. | |||

Brett, I look forward to your pictures and hope you had a blast. I confess when I first saw the title of this thread, I thought to myself My God, they're shooting virgins with DR these days?! I can safely report no virgins were harmed!!! Cal is a wonderful knowledgable guy and I would highly reccomend stopping by the African Hunter booth at either SCI or DSC to meet him. Unfortunately Cal didn't have practice loads ready like he thought he did, so we didn't get to shoot after all, but I enjoyed picking his brain about doubles, guns, Africa, and the rediculously clear view I was afforded of Denali on the drive up. The mountain seemed so close. Like you could almost reach out and touch it!!! Cal has a new book out on the .600NE which looks good. It focuses on classic .600s and has pictures of about a third of the known classic .600NEs plus a few of the new ones. Here's some pictures with some of his rifles. Cal's new book: 4 bore fodder: (L-R) 4 bore, .600NE, .450NE no.2, .450/400NE: 4 bore: Me barely holding on to the 22lbs. 4 bore: A well exicuted picture of me with a .600NE: ....and my absolute favorite Cal's Joseph Lang best BLE .450NE no.2. I'm in love!!!!: I'll be back this spring for sure to shoot doubles and commune with a like soul!!! Brett PS. I asked Cal about the relative recoil of the 4 bore compared to the .600NE. Approximate response: "Night and day! I can shoot 20 rounds through the .600 in a day. With the 4 bore 2 full loads are plenty!!!" Mind you this is coming a guy who shoots LARGE bore doubles frequently and who makes me look rather smallish at 6' 205lbs. Now that's recoil!!!!
