Well.......I just joined the DRSS club. Fired my first shots from my 9.3x74R (also its first shots as well). I've had it since Monday awaiting dies/brass/bullets and time.

Tikka 512s 3 barrel set... 12/12, + 9.3/9.3 + 7x57R/7x57R

Bought 100 Norma brass, 500 Privi 286 gr bullets from Grafs (lots of pratice).

Loaded 2 each with IMR 4064 ....51gr, 52gr, 53gr, 54gr, 55gr.

MUCH! less recoil than I previously expected.

Must say overall it was pretty sweet, not to have to work a bolt or change any position to fire a quick aimed second shot..

Anybody have any pet loads they would like to share?

Have not tried out the 7x57r yet...gotta find some brass.

Only fault I find so far is that the forearm fits well on the 9.3 barrels, extremely tight on the 7x57 and falls off the shotgun!

I've loosened and moved the forearm metal to the extent of the "play" in the inletting of the forearm and it tightens up some, but you can still just pull it off without working the latch. Any insights will be appreciated.

I will need to purchase and modify another buttstock to fit my hands (see other thread Double rifle Single trigger suitable for Elephant) the semi pistol grip is to open for me.....I'll need a more pronounced pistol grip to do my best shooting.

Many thanks to all the sage advice and good info I've gleaned from y'all on this site....hope to learn much more in the future.

Thanks! dancing

Congratulations on your new toy and welcome to DRSS. I am interested in how the 7x57r shoots. Did you by this set new? Do you have mounts so you can mount a scope?
Please post some pictures.

I would love to make a DRSS shoot or hunt....but leaving for Africa in mid July......so better keep all the pennies in the jar for that.....at least for now.....I'll catch another one for sure though. Thanks for the invite, will take a rain check for sure.

Namibia 12 days PG & leopard then Zim for 10 days buff/tuskless ele & leopard if not sucessfull in Namibia.

My poor budget is all in!

Bill,
The set was previously owned.....but according to the owner the shotgun barrels were shot a few times but neither of the rifle barrels were ever fired. 2 scope mounts.....chokes for the shotty barrel.
My plans are to scope the 7x57r and at least sight in a scope for the 9.3 but may/or may not use the scope depending on the specific circumstances of the game/terrain/vegetation...etc....

Am currently working literally 24/7 living in a travel trailer on an oil-well location, with brief breaks to run home and shower every few days. Not fun..but paying for Africa!

In other words not much time to wring out new loads, but good news is I have a 350 yard rifle range out of my upstairs window across the room from the reloading bench. (can you say wheeled office chair!)
Also have a tree limb thats just the right height for a standing rest just out side the door. So I can play a little during my "shower" breaks every time I get to go home.

Is there a Peep or Ghost ring rear sight that is capable of being mounted where the scope mounts go?
The rear sight assembly looks mighty fragile on these. Also mounted at the rear of the barrels instead of mid way will give an extended sight radius. ++ to me.

I don’t know of a Peep or Ghost ring rear sight that is capable of being mounted where the scope mounts go. Perhaps some one else does know of one.
I think you are right on the money having a scope for your 9.3 as it will help you see and hit your target better in nearly all situations. Keeping the scope on the lowest seting is nearly like having a peep sight. The only time I would take it off is on follow up or for verry close work.
Where are you drilling? I live south of Fort Worth and they are going great guns on drilling in the Burdett shale for gas. I feel for you having to be stuck out there when you want to play with your new toy. I think you are going to have a great hunt so it will be worth the work you are doing now.
