I am the proud owner of a 1902 Gibbs .500 BPE. This is my first double and have been looking for a long time. My good friend Cal Pappas helped me locate it and find just the right load. I went to Cals yesterday where we loaded three different loads working up to what he said should be the load that should regulate. I was very excited to shoot this "new" gun. I put up three targets in his front yard and started with the light load and worked up to the one that should shoot. I marked where the left and right barrel shot for each load. The third target was beautiful. Both printing almost on top of each other. I was all smiles collecting my targets and showing Cal. I'm now hooked! With some luck I will traveling to Zim next year with Cal and my .500 for some adventure. To top off the day I shot his mighty .600 Nitro and the massive 4 bore. What an amazing experience. Both are just impressive guns and great works of craftsmanship. If you haven't checked out his website you're in for some great stories and pictures of beautiful doubles. He is at Calpappas.com . I may post some pictures of my new treasure at another time. Happy shooting to you. Scott

Welcome to the DRSS (Double Rifle Shooters Society)Scott.
If Cal can't get a rifle working right then there is something wrong with it!
We'll probably have another local shoot next spring so keep it tuned up!

beer congratulations Alaska One! Welcome to the DRSS family!
I can assure you that double will not be your last, as the double rifles are about as addictive as heroin!

Hope to get up to Alaska next spring to do a little fishing, and maybe get over to Wasilla for the spring shoot as well.

....................................................................Good shooting old

Mac:
If you will be in AK in the spring, contact me in April and I should have the date of our first double rifle shoot to be held at Birchwood. This year it was early May and it was snowing so this coming May perhaps a bit later. We should have 20-30 doubles from .303 up to 4-bore there.
Cheers,
Cal

Thanks Cal, It's been a while since I've been hunting in Alaska, and I miss the mosquitoes sucking all my blood and now I'm on Plavix (a blood thinner) so they won't have to suck so hard! Big Grin

Kidding aside, I look forward to getting up there to shoot with you guys!
