Gentlemen, so far I have had 3 meals from the wild pig I shot durring the DRSS hunt at the 4K ranch.

Tonight was Rosemary Pork.
The meat is perfect.

As good as any pork I have shot, and I have shot a bunch of pigs [better than store bought pork by far and I used to be a Butcher].

So if you consider the guides, the facilities, the nnumber of pigs we saw/shot, and how they taste, the 4K is a great place to hunt.

Of course they probably do not taste near as good if you shoot them with Bolt Rifle Trash. Big Grin

The Ruger No1 in 416 Rem Mag, present at the hunt, would probably not taint the meat too bad....

Tony:

How big was the pig you are talking about? The reason I ask is becuase I have often been told that the smaller ones are great, but largers ones can be bad.

The one I shot and am having butchered was around 180 to 200 lbs - I am curious if the meat will be tasty or not.

The pig in question will be just fine. Roasts are great, of course the chops are delicious, the sausage will be awsome.

If I remember right my 4K pig weighed 190 or 192 lbs.

I have killed several pigs, many of the boars in the 265 to 285 lb range. I have taken 2 boars over 300 lbs, one around 350 to 340, it bottomed out my 300 lb "deer" scale. All of them were great eating.
My favorite eating size is 250 to 285 lbs.

Does 4k process the pigs or do you load em up and take them home to do it yourself?

Into my heart on air that kills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
And cannot come again.

I just had the loins, hams and shoulders pulled off and I butchered it myself.

They do have a nearby butcher shop that can process it for you.

Looking forward to sausage, chops, ham steaks and roasts! Not to mention the Axis!
