Does anybody know any history and or previous owner/s of this rifle? It came from Cabelas in Kansas City to me. It looks like it was one of the original group buy guns that Dale Nygaard assisted our members with. The serial number is only a couple off my previous Chapuis. The stock is certainly distinctive, and I like it. This is an ejector UGEX, 9.3x74R, regulated at 100 yards with 18.5 bullets by Durand. From the target, it apparently was sent back to Chapuis for reregulating with the VXIII scope. The scope serial number is listed on the target. At that time a new tonette was put in.
I'm just trying to put together it's provenance. I try to do this with most of my old guns. Maybe some future owner will find it of interest. Would appreciate any help.

Thanks
Bfly

I do know these rifles came with a wood checkered butt plate so someone either paid Chapuis to have the optional pad installed or had someone else do it. You could also specify the rifle be regulated with a scope when it is built for an additional cost.

You might contact Dale to see if he has any more info on it.

Thanks, I'll drop Dale a note. I understand he might not want to share a buyers name, privacy concerns. I thought someone here might be able to get me in touch with the previous owner.
The reason I thought it was sent back was a note on the target that the tonette was replaced, but that was just a guess on my part.

I am surprised at the handling difference between this one and my first one. This one handles more like a light shotgun. The LOP is the same, as is the barrel length, but I swear it balances differently. The first one was definitely more barrel heavy, while this one handles more like my Philly Fox 20 bore, interesting.
Recoil feels noticeably different as well, not nearly as much cheek slap. Downright pleasant to shoot. I'm guessing the previous owner had the triggers worked on. These are about four pounds and crisp and smooth. The first one's triggers were about nine or ten and the pull was longer and dragged a bit.
Just for the record, I shot a doe with it this morning. This is definitely enough gun for whitetails at fifty feet! dancingBfly

The reason there is not as much cheek slap is because you are shooting the rifle with a scope on it. Chapuis's are known to have very high combs and on both of mine I have to really push my cheek down on the stock to get the iron sights lined up. With a scope you cheek is higher. Plus the weight of the scope helps tame the recoil even more because the naked rifles are pretty light, in the low 7 pound range. And with the scope mounted it added some weight to the rifle which most likely changed the balance of the rifle as well.
