Looks like to me they finally realized that the Euro has fallen, but they are still overpriced compared to their competitors. Of course they are great rifles, but I just can't see why they are over double the cost of a Merkel. | |||

Maybe Bockhunter, but we have a agent in between in Norway. The agent is barely promoting Heym in the market. Have tried to discuss with the agent before, but almost hopeless. The only guy there, adviced by Heym export manager Mark Twitchell, leaved the Heym agent and got employed by another agent which is the importer of Merkel, Sako, Tikka and Beretta to mention some brands. Mark Twitchell has been very service minded, but I have to buy through the agent even if I visit the factory. That is why I do not believe I will get the same prices. Because merkels point and swing like fence posts. Yes I have owned them as well. If you don't see the value of having a rifle stoked to fit, built to your specifications, intercepting sears, etc. Your obviously not the customer that is going to pay for that. Mckay, my comments have nothing to do with the rifles, per se; I am commenting on the facts; the Euro has dropped drastically in recent years. Prices of Merkels have also dropped. Prices of Heyms have not dropped at all; you don't have to be a financial expert to ask where the money went/is going. My company buys equipment that is priced in Euros, and when you are paying is dollars, it takes less dollars to buy a Euro. International monetary transactions are not hard to track. | |||

I realize you are trying to be funny but you are missing the point; so far no one can explain why, when the Euro has fallen so far against the Dollar, that the price of the Heym has not dropped commensurate with the exchange rates. Double rifles are not oil and the Euro is not pegged to the dollar, so the difference is going somewhere. The Merkel comparison is that they have come down in price; why not the Heym too? I still don't think they are worth twice the price. Of course Heyms are great rifles; no argument there. It is the exchange rate that I also understand and I am asking the question. The Euro is at a 4 year low and has dropped 14 percent in the past year alone. No useful answers so far. | |||

This is very interesting! I can see a definite need for a "low brow" double rifles forum. You know, for those losers who have and like their Merkel, Sabatti, Chapius, Krieghoff, Baikal. The high brow forum would be for H&H, Rigby.........no wait, that would be the SUPER high brow forum. The regular high brow forum would be for Heym, VC, Searcy. I think if we were segregated into such forums, the high brow people wouldn't have to be offended by us low brow types................  | |||

The "old" price for the Heym PH was $17,000. The sale price at SCI is $14,000 and you are getting additional engraving that does not come on the standard PH. So that is about a 18% discount plus the free engraving. Why do you continue to bitch about the price? Don't like it, dont buy it. But for the rest of the people its a hell of a deal. There is your answer, 18% off which is 4% more than what the Euro dropped plus free engraving on top of that. If the wife and I were not building a new house in TN this year I would of placed an order for one myself. And I am still tempted! My brother and I walked back to the booth 4 different times as I couldn't decide. Still might  My biggest fear is when I die my wife will sell my guns for what I told her they cost. | |||

375 Flanged --Mine is 9 # 3oz (with my claw bases) 500 on the large boxlock 12+/- dependent on wood density my 450 on the standard boxlock is 10 # 7 oz (if my memory is correct) the 470 on the large frame will go 11# +/- the 450-400 will run 10 +/- With the number of sales delivery is going to run about 10 months (I too am considering getting another) | |||

They are a life time investment. Expensive yes but what else can you buy for 14 k that will out last you and your children. If you own a gun and you are not a member of the NRA and other pro 2nd amendment organizations then YOU are part of the problem. | |||

I must confess I was, but also just my impressions on Merkels. I handled the new Sabattis at DSC, and were it not for the HORRIBLE introduction by Cabelas and the insanely idiotic idea of grounding barrels to fill a market niche, and if one were to take an OBJECTIVE look at both rifles, there is no question in my mind the Sabatti is a better buy. Merkels aren't even in the same universe as Heyms, much less VCs. Lastly, there have been literally countless examples here of Merkels doubling on a regular basis. When I was at DSC this year, I was speaking to a fellow AR member who related to me an incident at a double rifle shoot where there was a Merkel rep with doubles to try and after the first two or three doubled, he quietly put his guns away and left. I for one ordered one of the anniversary specials at the SCI show and couldn't be happier. Custom fitted with multiple measurements and an incredibly well balanced fit and feel. I was not looking for a gun at the show but when i handled this one and compared it to a Kreighoff they had as well I ordered one in the .450/400. Can't wait until this jewell arrives. | |||
