I sent my double to JJ in mid December '07.

He's shipping it back to me tomorrow!

It's been slugged at .408 diameter. I will

be so happy to be able to shoot it regularly

now and, maybe get a deer with it this
season. dancing

So tell me sources for .408 bullets.

Woodleigh 400 grain .408 check out MidwayUSA

and Hawk Bullets
He can provide 300 and 400 grain bullets. The Hawks are dead soft bullets. They should require a few grains less powder to achieve regulation velocity. They do seal the bore!

For deer sized non dangerous game go with the thinner jackets!

JJ has much work and is backed up. He does not get to a rifle
for months once he's received it. It got new case colors and
some re-blacking, trigger pulls improved to be between 4 and
5 pounds and made crisper, some new screws in a couple of
spots, new platinum line on standing blade, new front site with
warthog ivory insert, firing pins were sticking in primers after
firing so they needed attention, thorough inspection of internals.

JJ is said to do fine work, but there must be others around who
are getting less publicity and don't have such a back log. I'll
now start a new thread asking for a list of sound double rifle
smiths.

Congratulations Jack!
You must send pictures a.s.a.p!

We must meet and have a day at the shooting range, Osborne and Webley & Scott .450/.400 3 1/4" dancing

My gun smith has had my Janssen Sons & Co .333 Jeffery Flanged for almost 2 years now.... Left barrel's striking pin is not in centre of the removal disk set strikers, thus causing miss fires time to time

He is working on it......

My rifle arrived at my home today!!! I have begun
to examine it and I am LOVING what I am seeing and
feeling. The triggers used to have distinctly too
much creep and needed too much pulling effort. Now
the front is at 4.5 pnds and the rear is at 4.75
pounds per JJ, and the CREEP is now replaced with
CRISP!!! NICE & CRISP. I think it was our own JPK
who so strongly suggested to me to seek CRISPNESS
in the triggers. Sir you were so RIGHT! If it was
another member than please speak up and remind me
so I can say thanks to you. The case coloring looks
wonderful and the blueing touch up does also. The
new platinum in the rear sight is great as is the
warthog ivory forward sight. The screws that had
sharp edges are replaced and everthing is just so
good!. And NOW my safety is NON-automatic. It had
been an automatic safety, but all you experienced
DG hunters have made it clear that NON-auto is a MUST!
I am just LOVING holding and aiming my rifle and the
squeezing of the triggers is so satisfying. I DO have
KYNOCK brand snap caps which [ www.ttproctor.com ]
my friend Trevor Proctor in northern England found
for me and sent over. So I have no fears when dry
firing. Guys I am so happy and excited to have my DG,
AFRICA worthy, vintage, English made double rifle
back with me. It's the best "thing" that I'll ever
own I do believe. I feel like a giddy kid, I really
do! I'll work with my wife to get some pic's up dur-
ing the next 5 or 6 days. I wish for all you guys
out there to have a happy little thing happen for you
too! Some days, life is really good... Smiler

WOW Husky!!! A trip to Sweden sounds cool!!!
My time is very tight now, but maybe in a few yrs!
N E 450 No2 - Tony - shoots a rifle in this caliber
too, in TEXAS - USA. He loves it!!!

Glad you got your rifle back.

JJ does great work. You should really like the 450/400 3 1/4" I know I like mine. Especially now that it is scoped with a 1.1-4 S&B with illuminated reticle in claw mounts.

As for .408 bullets, Woodleigh 400gr Softs and Solids are perfect for African game.

For deer and wild pigs I use a 300gr Hawk bullet with the .025jkt. I load it over the same powder charge that works for the 400gr bullets and it hits and regulates to the sights.
Its velocity is @2330fps if I remember correctly.

If for some reason your particular double will not shoot the 300gr bullets, then try the 400gr Hawk. I killed a pig with one using the .o35jkt.

My computer notebook went belly up do to a fluid issue into the keyboard, so I am on another machine today so may be off line for a few days.

I would start with @67 gr of RL 15, using a filler for sure. My double likes 71.5gr of RL 15, or 81gr of IMR 4831, no filler with 4831.

I am looking foward to seeing the pictures.

The last 3 pigs I killed I used my 450/400. Big Grin

beerCongratulations Jack! JJ does fine work, and IMO, his work is worth waiting for! For the amount of tedious work you had done, 10 months is not out of line, even if he didn't have the Backlog Wink

I can't wait to see the pictures! Smiler

I am sorry Jack, for the possible hijack here, but the statement above BEGS for more information. A fluid issue into the keyboard?

No problem Jim. I am having a super busy night at
work, no break time so no pic's tonight, sorry all.
As for Tony's FLUID ISSUE, I am sure it's as innocent
as a spilled cup of coffee, nothing titilating at all...

Jack,

I join the many in wanting to see pix of your double. Here's how:

Concept: Essentially you do NOT post to the board the same way you do to an email. Email is much easier.

Steps: First you must establish an account at an internet site like www.photobucket.com Keep the Board open but minimize it and open a new version of INTERNET Explorer and go to that website and follow instructions to establish an account. Then you follow the prompts to upload your pix to the photobucket site.

Once photos are uploaded you can begin the effort to paste them here on the Board. When you run your cursor over the options on each photo, the last one is the one you want to use to paste a picture into your posting on this board. You do so by left-clicking on the third possibility, the one that starts with IMG. You will see a reply that says "copied."

Then you return here to your post on the board, finish the text and do a carriage return or two (ENTER). Then you hit first right click and left click on PASTE and your pix is into your message as IMG etc, etc IMG. Click POST NOW and you've done.

An alternative is to email pix to one of your friends on the BOARD and they might post for you. I'd volunteer, but am in China for the next few days with irregular access to email...

Luck, Tim
