This may have been asked before but I have a Heym 88B Safari and when I got the rifle it had several boxes of Superior Ammo with some reduced Power Cast Lead Bullets. I have been shooting them up in preparation for an upcoming Safari and would like to ask a question. I am sure Rusty, Mac, Tony, Mark, etc. know about this. Should I be concerned with Lead fouling in the bores and if so, how is it best to clean. I have Sweets and use it to make sure Copper is out but I do not think it affects lead. Any ideas are appreciated and PM's are welcome. Thanks, Larry York, SC

JB bore polish will get the job done very quickly, Larry get the lead out and use the 450's they're pricey but so is your DR. "An individual with experience is never at the mercies of an individual with an argument"

Thanks Dirk, for sure after these are gone, all I will shoot are the 450 Jacketed. I am not sure this is even a problem in the bore. I have shot in total maybe 50 of these and I have 40 more. Can they build up and create a problem? York, SC

What Dirk said! Any powder/lead solvent like Hoppes will get the lead out. For copper I still like Sweets or the foam cleaner. Rusty We Band of Brothers! Not really Larry, your not pushing them fast enough for it to become much of an issue. "An individual with experience is never at the mercies of an individual with an argument"

Just use any good solvent, and a good tight bore brush. Your barrel will last forever using lead bullets. DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

Dirk just gave you the answer for the product, and good advice as to the extent of your problem! Though all guns are different, the Searcy .470 that I had would shoot the left barrel, clean or dirty to sights, but the right would shoot 4" high and right with a clean bore. I just had to be sure that everytime I cleaned the bore that I fouled it with a shot before hunting... after that, it was a 2" gun, again. Not a big problem, of course, because cleaning the bore every night isn't necessary, but something that's better to find out before you get fifty yards from a buffalo with a newly cleaned gun. Shoot a couple of jacketed bullets through your lead fouled bore. Removes a lot of lead. Less work with the solvents and brushes. Dave
