Just back from a spot & stalk bear hunt in BC. Used a V-C in 375R V-C (2800 fps with a 300 gr Hornady SPBT). Both my son & myself took 7 foot bears.

Details:
Outfitter..... Primitive Outfitting
Location..... British Columbia, Canada
Firearm.......Verney-Carron AZUR double rifle in 375R V-C.
Game hunted......Black Bear
Dates...... June1-7 2014
Hunt Type......Spot & Stalk

This hunt involved checking for feeding bears along grassy areas, logging roads, rail road tracks, clear cuts from logging, pastures. When a suitable male bear was identified we stalked to a reasonable range. Most of the bears were seen in the last few hours of the day

My son took his bear at about 75 yards, extremely nice 7 foot bear (nose to tail). One shot & the bear never moved

My bear was also 7 foot at approx 125 yards

Very interesting & exciting hunt, we saw lots of bears & would recommend this hunt. Best part was sharing some time with my son.
Jeff Lander at Primitive Outfitters is highly recommended

Hi Ken.

What caliber is .375R?..Rum...H&H rimmed..?.

300grain @ 2800 ft/sec is pretty darn good.

The 375R V-C is based on shortened 450, necked to 375.
The factory load is 100gr Norma MRP with a 300gr bullet. I have used the same load with both Hornady & CEB bullets. Northfork bullets require a slightly lower charge of powder.
With CEB solids it was shooting thru elephants on side shots.
Taking it again for elephants this August

This was a fun hunt, very doable with a double rifle. The outfitter takes a number of bears with a hunters using bows. One of the hunters in camp with us took a 7 foot bear at 15 yards with a bow. Five hunters in camp took 9 bears, 4 of them were at the 7 foot mark with the balance being between 6-7 feet. We saw 5 to 15 bears every time we went out.

Mike, I'm sure the outfitter could arrange a Bear hunt for you...stalking in a dry river bed with 2 guides behind you with lighters at the ready. If not, you could always go back and see this guy :-)
