I'm not sure how one could best recommend a double for someone else other than just to sell one. Since the criteria so far is a 500 and ejectors, what other criteria should be listed? In the ideal case: a) Not sure one should recommend a used double rifle except maybe from Champlins, or similar, where the rifle can actually be shot by the seller and/or buyer. b) Is this going to be a one shot double safari and then relegated to the used market? c) Unless the rifle is coming from a reputable AR member (I don't who that would be ) I think a trip to the sellers location to shoot the rifle would be a good idea, for either a new or used gun. d) How much should it weigh, not that there is much choice on that account? e) What price? $100K, $10K, what? What else? There are Merkels around every corner. Maybe not a bad choice for a relatively inexpensive first 500. And a few Chapuis' are around. A heym if you can find one, etc., etc. But are the triggers going to be acceptable on a new double? Maybe an AR member has one he is willing to do away with? I think Mike Jines has a whole closet full of 500's. Otherwise, if money is no restriction, the buyer should make tracks to go test fire whatever prospective 500 is being considered. On the other hand, send a broker, with all expenses paid, to track one down that will probably go bang every time. Obviously in today's internet world anyone can get the info from the web. Given that as a starting point, I would presume that a request like this within the small community of AR is a quick way of finding out a reliable source or a gun or both. The price etc. are not the issue as all that info is already available on the web. Let us look at it this way.... I just see this as a quick way for getting to the real options. The bigger question for me is - when is this person going to TZ? I hope he plans to practice with the rifle for a fair while before the hunt. "When the wind stops....start rowing.
