I am currently looking at a Krieghoff in 500/416. The gun seems to have been brought to the US with out going through a distributor according to Krieghoff and a serial number search. First should I be concerned wiht this? The gun is unfired so I cannot shoot it. I will have to go by handling. I will not recieve it to look till Friday. I have searched but cannot find loading data other than Barnes which is only for them. Help what should I do? Thanks in advance Mike

Do a search on it and it'll give you quite a few postings on reloading and using the 500/416.

Mike

I have fired a 500/416 Krieghoff.

I find the recoil less than a 470, but more than a 450/400.

The "cocking device" on the K gun is not a problem, or a negative for me.

If you like the way the rifle handles I would not be worried about how it will shoot as I have not heard of any problems from Krieghoff owners.

I have also shot a three 470 K guns, and they all shot good as well.

I have killed buff and elephant with a 9,3x74R double, several of both with a 450 No2, and buff, elephant, and lion with a 450/400 3 1/4".

I would have no qualms about hunting any African game with a 500/416.

With bullets @ 300gr, it would make a great deer, wild pigs, and black bear over bait double.

I own one in 500/416 and I like it a bunch. I've hunted with it and the capabilities of the round are just what I was looking for.

Only thing I can compare it to was my prior ownership of a bolt in 416 Rem Mag and shooting my neighbor's 450/400. I used it to take my Cape Buff last year. Performed perfectly. I've shot it a bunch and found it to be VERY accurate.

I do reload for it and that's also a very easy task. If you end up with the rifle, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a .pdf file copy of a document from Krieghoff with loading data for the regulated load.

I like the rifle so much I had another set of barrels made for it in 9.3x74R. I've used them both to take other PG in Africa nad plenty of deer here. Used to get some funny looks from others in the deer hunting party.

I also have a Hubertus single shot. Same thing as the one you are looking at, not on record with Krieghoff USA. Not a big deal as I bought it from the original owner, a German citizen who purchased it over there, got married to an American woman, moved here and brought the rifle home to the USA. I've had it to Krieghoff USA for additional barrels and some scope mounts with out any issues.

Good luck.

Mike
