I did a bit of gun shop hopping while touring Anchorage while queing up for Cal's Double Shoot-here are a few of my observations for your interest-
Walter Earl's Antique Gallery, Gun Room-
*Searcy Sidelock 470NE nice engraving $9900
*New and apparently unfired George Hoenig round action o/u 20 gauge 3", cased and all papers, $21K....I am thinking a set of 375 Flanged or 450-400 3" would be a nice addition to this beautiful piece!! Today this would be a $29K+ price tag and good long wait!!
Jim West's Wild West Guns-
*Nice 500NE Hambrusch of Ferlach, BL double, $25K Late rifle looked new!
*Nice 577NE Hambrusch of Ferlach, BL Double, $25K Also late rifle and looked new!
*Not a Double, But Frank Barnes personal pre-war Winchester Model 70 Custom in 375 Barnes Improved, dies, info book and photograph of him in the field with rifle. $6600
Great Northern Guns
* Nice old German 12 ga shotgun converted to a 45-70 double, double triggers, looked well done. $4500.

Cal's Double Rifle shoot is a real Hoot, great display of beautiful British doubles, lots of ammo to shoot, nice guys/gals and good food, good weather too....made a great trip along with the Great Alaskan Aviation Gathering the previous weekend...and some good touring around with my wife....Alaska is just a fun and beautiful place to visit!!

Cheers,

Thanks for the accolades, but in all honesty it is everybody's shoot. While I make arrangements, Rob reserves the range and does that paperwork, 6-8 fellas chip in for food and drink.
Glad you enjoyed it and you 9and everyone else) is welcome to the next one. Date to be announced soon.
Cal

Biebs: Join us someday. Stay at my place to avoid hotel charges. It will be my pleasure.

PS. You will feel comfortable here as my home (and the shooting range) has a transgender bathroom.

Sorry I hd to miss this year's shoot but I still have a couple of hunters in the field sorting through brown bears. Both of the bears taken so far will make B&C and since we have been seeing lots of big boars hopefully the last two will be just as successful.

Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship
