I posted a poll on the website GUNs & Game

http://www.gunandgame.com/foru...l-double-rifles.html

I am trying to get a dedicated forum for double rifles there, and they suggested that I post there, and get some friends who shoot double rifle to post there as well. If it shows interest, they will dedicate a forum for double rifles, and combination gun there!

After reading that post, you don't seem to be finding much support there.

Mac, you have to have a fair share of these mountains-of-disposable-income Texans and such to be able to support even a forum, where the most trying of questions is the decision as whether to order a Holland and Holland Royal or a mere Westley Richards.

Decisions, decisions. Life is a bitch on the killing fields.

I just did!

However I post on a lot of forums on a lot of websites! It is true that AR is my home, but NE is my vacation cabin, and many others are places I visit as well.

Hell nobody wants to stay home all the time!

Well I guess you guys are not travelers! Too bad, it is a big world out there!

.......And from the responces on this thread here it doesn't seem I'm getting any support here either! Oh well, that's life in the fast lane! I guess you can't always expect to be backed up by your PH when in danger! Big Grin

Mr. MacD37,

I kinda feel bad for you opening up a can a worms such as this. You must feel like a heritic trying to change peoples' minds that the Earth is not the center of the solar system. People are afraid of what is unbeknowngst to them.

Some "just" arguements are made both ways. Inviting people out of their comfort zones is always difficult. The remarks about cost prohibition are slightly true, it prohibits me from buying one yesterday, HA. But other alternatives are available, ie. .30-06 Baikal, like which I own. I saved up my money for that one like I will save up my money for everything else I will ever buy.
Example: I didn't go in the local hardware store in my little home town and buy the .22 lr rifle I wanted on my 12th birthday, I saved and WORKED for it, before I was able to purchase it.

Arguements for long distance scoped shots are always difficult because everybody has their "best gun for the job." My dad's long range rifle, is actually a 12 gauge shotgun. Give him a slug and he can rival me with my CZ 550 Full Stock .30-06, my favorite gun. While my brother can wax my skills with his .22-250 single shot Encore. It is all in what we grew up with and feel the most comfortable. My father only owns that shotgun, I can quote him as saying, "what do you wanna give that rifle for, didn't need it my prior 62 years, damn sure don't want to start with it now." Repeat the expression and add another year to it and you get what Christmas Day is like in the Hall home. Now my brother on the other hand raids my gun cabinet as he pleases, just to put variety in his life. And as for me, my illiterate grandfather had 3 books he never read, but could quote you verbatum 1. Bible 2. Roosevelt's African Game Trails 3. some cookbook. I can remember as a small child my grandmother reading my brother, my grandfather, and myself stories from the first 2 as "bed time" stories. Because of Roosevelt's book, it sparked a passion with Africa and for me Double go hand in hand with My definition of Safari.

Just my own two cents, by the way I will need them back so I can put them back in the gun fund.

mac

thank you for the invitation, i went to the site and read through it, and allthough i love talking about dbl. rifles i try to do it with people that would be interested and maybe would try to see beyond the myth and BS and look at it as a tool, a magnificent tool, but a tool just the same.

on that forum, it seemed to me, that it would be trying to run upstream with an umbrella fastned to your back.

i would love to back you up, but what is the point in this case, were it not the same forum that had all those amusing EXPERTS that had some really fun oppinions about the 9,3 x 74r ?

best

peter

ok mac now im there, lets see where this goes...

Folks I agree that the double rifle & combination gun forum on Guns & game is like asking kindergarten kids to read a collage calculus formula, and enjoy it!

Well it was worth a try! coffee

There are some good kids over there, they simply do not know anything about firearms in general, and there are some who would disagree with anyone on anything, you know kind of like here! Big Grin
