Please men, those of you shooting the 450/400 3.25", can I ask you to post you're full strength loads and the deer/plinkin' loads you're using too. Thank you. Jack OH GOD! {Seriously, we need the help.}

Hello Jack, I picked up a high condition Evans 450/400 3 1/4 last summer ordered in 1924 and delivered in 1927. The gun has an extremely short throat that requires me to trim the brass to 3.20. I mention this as a reminder each gun is unique. The gun shoots and regulates perfectly with 80 grs of IMR 4831 with the Woodleigh 400gr soft, the Hornady 400gr RN and the Hornady 300gr SP. The bores are .408 so I size the Hornady's down. The 400gr bullets are doing 2135fps and the 300gr are doing 2250fps. Interestingly it cross fired with R-15. Hope this helps.

Jack,
I don't mean to hi-jack your thread but I use the same Hornady 400 SP load in my Krieghoff 450/400-3" for 2080 f/s. And since the two cartridges are so similar I am wondering if there is any reason (safty wise) I shouldn't give the 300 Hornady load a try. Any input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jim

jack i use 79 grns of H 4831 for woodleigh 400 grns soft, the same amount for 300 grns hawkbullets and for fun 210 grns pistolbullets at the same load again. most of the time the pistol bullets shoots over the front sight but it is great fun for plinking and small game best peter
