If our government banned air travel with firearms and it became impossible to get to Africa with your own double rifle would the value of our double rifles decrease?

Yes it would, but it shouldn't, because you can hunt anything with a double rifle. I hunt everything from titmouse to Tyrannosaurus Rex with a double rifle of proper chambering. So they would still be very valuable to me, and since I will likely never get back to Africa, the ban would mean little to me but I certainly hope that doesn’t happen. It would not only make it very hard on the younger guys who hunt Africa a lot now, and would totally ruin the Safari business. thumbdown

UNLESS... at a reasonable cost we suddenly were

allowed to ship, {cargo flight} the firearms we'd use

in Africa via the mail or UPS, etc. ahead of time, and

return ship them when the hunt ended.

I suppose the price of shotgun barrels for our doubles would increase.

Certainly the value that we personally place on our DRs would not decrease. But what about the market value. I am thinking that not many people would want to own a DR just to hunt titmice at their deer lease. So the market price for DRs would plumet.

I think, if that happened the prices on the ones already imported might take a plung, but the rest of the world buys ten times what Americans buy, and the ban wouldn't effect them at all. They not only use thier double in Africa, but like I do for hunting at home as well. In the USA after the stock was sold out here, I doubt anyone would be importing them much longer for a smaller, than average customer base already, that would become much smaller. The cost of makeing them wouldn't go down and with a smaller customer base yet, I think you would slowly see fewer, and fewer of them for sale at any price. The used double market would actually become higher, because lack of availability.

Let's just hope it doesn't happen, because if it does it will sooner or later be the end of travel hunting, if not hunting all together.

I see myself as a logical, sensible man. Hence, I have NO business

being involved with gov't bureaucracies. I have no idea how I have

been able to force myself to stay employed in a G.B. for over 30 yrs...
