Cabelas in Wisconsin just listed a Sabatti 92 Safari DR in 450 NE for $1,999.99. Might be one with an "adjusted" muzzle, but might be worth checking out.

You guys just substantiated that there is a big market for a quality $2000 SxS double rifle. I wonder why that hasn't been done yet. .

Quality and $2000 in the same sentence ! mmmmm, how many more pages could we write (ref the Sabatti blogs) when another one hits the market ! I would be happy to see a low cost double but I think people have got to be realistic. We had the Baikal / Remington saga, then the Sabatti, we've had the convert shotgun to DR's, what's next ? Just to kick this old dog one more time. I think the cost to manufacture a mass produced double (see the Chapuis video) would not be that much more than a good bolt rifle. A good cnc machining center can run 24-7 they can also run lights out just load them up and start the program. Just because you can build it for $1000.00 doesn’t mean you have to sell it for $2000.oo when the market is $5000.00 or $15000.00. I think Sabatttis sell for less in Europe than they do hear. Maybe, but you forgot taxes. You have to figure that whoever makes it will have to pay, between state and federal, 35% or more in income taxes, state disability, and self employment tax (Social Security). Then, because it is a firearm being made, there is a Federal Excise Tax (FET) of 11% of the first selling price, not the cost, the selling price. Add at least 25% for overhead like insurance, rent, utilities, repairs, etc. From your $2000 selling price: - $1000 = Cost to make - $250 overhead - $220 FET - $186 other taxes Leaves $344 in your bank account So imagine that you make AND SELL 110 of these wonder guns in a year. That's 10/month if you don't work on holidays and take a two week vacation. From the 110 guns sold, 10 of them will pay for your federally forced Obamacare and the remaining 100 will make you a rich man with an annual $34,000 in disposable income. That's just about what an unwed mother of three gets in welfare, food stamps, and social assistance. Of course, if you can't make 10 guns per month on your own then you will have to hire help. That adds unemployment insurance for them, the government health plan (unless you prefer to pay the penalty), additional insurance, and a whole host of other costs. By the time you're done, it will be YOU who qualifies for welfare. "From the land of capitalism" ----- Right. Go for it. ~

Grenadier I was agreeing with him. I fully understand all the other associated costs involved, however I think a fair few others in the world don't. You can bet that GM, Toyota, Chrysler and all the firms that everybody works for don't sell something for $2000 that cost them a $1000, they sell it for what the market will bear. Please let me know where you have seen them cheaper in Europe and by how much. Every time I've looked at knives, boots, etc it is cheaper to buy a European made good in the U.S. than it is in Europe. NRA Benefactor TSRA Life DRSS Brno ZP-149 45-120 NE

Guys I have read all the info.posted on the Sabatti and realize that some are not put together very well. Also the barrel regulation problems, but I have one in 470 nitro and one in 500 nitro, and while not pin point accurate, they shoot fine for me. The wood finish and metal to wood fit is quite acceptable to me anyway. If just getting into doubles and on a tight budget, I think its an option. Just my opinion not wanting to stir up another debate at all. Maybe I got lucky and just got 2 decent ones. Used to be bigdoggy700 with 929 posts . big doggy I don't know about "not put together well". Haven't seen too many comments re that and no reports that I can remember of them coming loose. I think the main thing is how they were regulated (or lack of / grinding) and that now seems to be fixed. Previously 500N with many thousands of posts !

I have owned two Sabatti 450s; both fit very tightly and well worth the $5k they cost. I read that Cabelas buys them for $3500 but there is an importer in the middle too. I have never heard that they weren't well made for the price; just some regulation issues; shortcuts they should not have made.
