jeffeossowish me luck - Building a DR
woohoo!!!
we both lived thorough it and i survived with all 11 fingers!!
tied it to a tire, roped it in, and fired first working loads to verify, then 4 proof loads.
sure, the proofs were just quikcload estimates -- but estimates over 40K, when working load is under 30K --- and with 500gr bullets, not the working 405grs.
anyway, the proofs literally fell out of the chambers -- which only means that the proof loads aren't high pressure, it DOES NOT mean you can use the proof loads all the time.
The working loads just fall out, and i picked up and shot 4 of those after we checked headspace and inspected for damage..
I was worried about chamber swelling, but IN THIS CASE, there was no swelling, which was my largest proofing concern
up next - cut extractors mortices, make extractors, rig scope mount, install a recoil pad, and then begin regulation
more to come, for sure.

Rodney H.{500Jeffery}Jeffeosso's homemade double really is a keeper. The fit of the barrels was very well done and the action is very smooth. Was'nt able to fire it myself do to physical reasons, but watching Jeffe fire it aiming down the barrels as if a fine set of express sights were installed, the rifle seemed to hit where aimed not just pointed. Don't believe he will have much problem with the regulation process. Not only does it shoot and fit well, but it looks good. Although not finished the business end or the muzzle as others call it looks proportioned and neat. Can't wait to see it in a completed state. A job being well done. Rodney.

Well, unlike an 8x57, I actually noticed it went off!

<xs headspace>Did you check for case stretching?? I decided on a max load for my 45-100 Merkel frame double when the case stretch was less than .004" per firing.

jeffeossoExtractor mortices cut
whole gun scrubbed with detergent and then oiled up
i'll make extractors tomorrow or the next day

jeffeossoTHANKS
ordered some spare metal here and there to do some ribs and the extractor plate ..
i would pull this one apart, if I was to do it again, rather than the way i did.. but, I'll live with it!
21 February 2009, 06:37
jeffeossodo to various PERSONAL issues, I can't bring myself to order the rib from crownpress -- I ordered some 7/16 10L14 to make my own ribs/sights, and we'll go from there.
I am certain tommy BUYS a fine rib to sell, but not for me.

jeffeossoSOrt of -- I proofed it, and then went hunting a couple times with my spartan and my 470AR ..
I ordered the wrong material for the extractor plate, so I got stuck, and then got to playing with my 45LC 625 SW and my fast twist 22 pistols.
In other words, I got distracted!

michaeljSounds like great distractions.

Rodney H.{500Jeffery}From what I saw to finish was extractors and sights to verify regulation. And it does look better than he says, besides I think I may have already tried to trade him out of it with no luck

Hey Jeffe,
I decided to keep my Huglu 12gs double triggers & 28" barrels. Just because it's a darn nice gun and yes where's the freakin pics.
