After saving for ages, I was able to purchase a used Merkel 140-2 in .500NE. The rifle shoots great. Check it out!

Tongo,
I hope you enjoy your 500NE. My Son and I had a Merkel 500NE that was our first DR. Since then we purchased a 577NE from Butch Searcy, which we LOVE, and sold off our Merkle, hoping to find a SWEET British DR!
The Best of Luck with your DR.

I know if I had a 500 Nitro Express I would load me up some deer and pig Nitro for Black, loads with the 440gr Woodleigh BPEX bullest over 56 grains of IMR 4198 with a compressed filler of dacron. [15 to 20 grains of Dacron]

Velocity should be about 1850 fps.

You might have to adjust the powder charge up or down a little to get regulation.

Mark those are stock sights on that rifle, and they are the square notch. 10 minutes with a file will do the trick, however! thumb

Congratulations Tongo! Welcome to the DRSS! beer
