Just got a Dr. Optic sight and base for my VC 450-400.

Very impressed with the base - its just latches on to the barrel and can be locked with a simple lever.

The Dr. Optics looks good too.

Need to get to the range and try it out. Maybe I can hit something at 50 yards and impress Biebs.

MIke - I have been using the same sight and base on my VC 450, and I really like it. I do not know if I am going to hunt with it yet, but it is a great tool for load development. I have had good luck bore sighting these sights using a Cabelas laser bore sighter that you place in one of the barrels. After that, you just turn on the bore sighter and match the red dot of the laser with the red dot of the sight. It gets you pretty close at 25 yards and saves you time and ammo.

The more I play with attaching and taking off the Dr. Optic mount - its so easy and well engineered it seems something like Blaser would do Wink

Now I need to wait for my NRA magazine to come, so I can send the front cover to the gun club so they renew my membership and let me shoot.

Already done! I have a Swarovski scope in QD mounts for my Blaser S2 in 500NE!!! The return to zero is amazing!

Mike,

Did you have your rib modified for the mount? Any chance of seeing some photos? I am taking a group of guys on a PG only hunt next year, and I am only going to shoot 2-3 animals. This would be a cool option to use on a double for a hunt like that if it doesn't require major modification...

Will upload some pictures today. No modification needed. There is a indent in the rib and the Dr Optic mount drops in it and you need to use a lever to lock it in. Take under 2 sec and the Dr. Optic is light - few ounces.

I can carry the Dr Optic in my shirt pocket - biggest risk would be misplacing it as it is so light.

does it retain zero if you take it off and on? When you post pix, can you also reference the model of optic and mount?

Tim, from the way I've seen Mike shoot, it would be very hard to tell if the sight hold zero :-)

Tim,

It may take a few days to a few weeks before I can take it to the range. My membership is on hold as I have to prove I am an NRA member by sending a copy of a NRA magazine. NRA provides insurance to the club and membership is required. And as all good marketing/telemarketing/cyber marketing firms the NRA sends out free memberships cards it in mail membership drives. So only real proof of BRA membership the club uses is magazine covers.

The Dr. Optic is Doctor Optic III - the base is the one Ken/VC sells.

Biebs - you have seen me shoot a kob and then you were much impressed with my shooting skills. If we are around elephants you will be much impressed by my running skills too Cool

Mike,

If you could send me some pix to tim@timherald.com I would appreciate it. Maybe a photo of the base on the gun without the optic on it as well. I am especially interested in the mount since they did not have to modify your rifle.

Tim:

I have a DO on my 500 NE. It is easy to use, easy to take on and off, and holds its zero.

Should you choose to get one , I would recommend that you get a woman's makeup brush to clean the dust off of it daily .

Other the focusing on Biebs selfie, a term I had to google to figure what it meant.

The Dr Optic and the base is perfect for a double. The sight and the base weight a few ounces. It does not effect the balance or point ability of the gun. Worst case scenario just undo the sight and use the iron sights if things get nearly nasty. Taking the sight off and putting it on is easier than loading and unloading the rifle.

I was going to put a trijicon 1-4x scope on it - but that would have totally changed the feel of the gun. And what good is a double that does not feel right. Its not like we buy/use doubles for accuracy or practicality, we have blasers for that (free product placement for Biebs)

Thanks Tim for posting the pictures.

Perfectly conceived.

Improves shoot ability without any change in balance. Can take it off in 5 seconds and put it in your shirt pocket.

Perfect addition to any double in my opinion.

Hi,

is this set up made by Verney Carron at the factory ? I understand that my set up that Jerome make is somewhat different ! A more long plate - but I have not seen the Doctor mounted on it. I think that Ken Butch has the solution that I am going to have from VC !

Mike, Where did you get the mount? Was it a stock item or did you have it made? It looks like the base mounts in the front hole of a Recknagel type mount base.
