| I think you might be relaxing your hand too quickly after firing the shot, this allows the rifle to recoil "in the hand" so to speak, causing to to slide foward on the grip and banging your trigger finger on the front trigger.. Try keeping your grip a little tighter and your finger on the rear trigger a little harder. after the shot. Also you might just need to get a double with an articulated front trigger.

| If your front trigger is cutting your finger when you fire the rear trigger, your LOP is too short.
An easy way to verify this is to purchase one of those slip on recoil pads which will increase the LOP by an inch or so. Try it and see if that helps.
If you determine this to be the case, then contact the guys at Champlin Arms and let then know of your issue. They should be able to help.
This was the same thing that happened to me when I first purchased my Merkel 500. Even with the articulated trigger, it cut me pretty bad every time I fired it. Adding 1" made all the difference in the world.
Hope this helps. |

| The length of pull with a 7/8in pad on it is 13.8 in, but it still cuts, I am not interested in a articulated trigger, should I add a spacer to increase the LOP to 14.8 in? I dont really want to saw on this Ferlach stock, I also wonder if 2 mercury recoil pads in the back end might help, by the way it is a 470NE. thanks, still looking for help...kld |

| 13.8 seems short unless you are a small person. If I remember, mine was 14.25". I increased it to 15.5 and that solved the problem. I increased the LOP with a spacer between the recoil pad and stock as well as a bit thicker pad. No cutting of the stock necessary.
Another question while you are at it. How are the sights. Does the comb appear too high making it difficult to place the front sight into the bottom of the "V"? If so, this could also be an indication of a too short LOP. |

| I have the same problem with the 2 470's that I have. I'm going to have Butch add a spacer and then cover it with leather to hide the spacer. And then, I am going to smooth the right edge of the front trigger out. Right now, is is gorgeous but sharp. He will have plenty of time to get it done before I need it anyway. |

| Glad I could help! I've seen this one many times. It seems most non-bespoke doubles usually come with a 14.5 LOP or similar. Since it's easier to shorten than lengthen, you would think they would err on the long side.
No matter, your LOP can be adjusted with a spacer with little trouble. Just for reference, I'm 6'1" and shoot 15.5 LOP. Seems like us 6 footers get shorted on most of the off the shelf rifles. |

| Like the others say KLD, if you are 6 foot then 13.8" is almost certainly too short, I´m 5´11" and use 14 7/8" LOP. best, Mike |

| I would second the too short. I'm 6'1", 240 and had trouble with both shotguns and rifles until I sent to 15.5 for double rifles and shotguns and 14.5 for bolt rifles. Made a huge difference in felt recoil, banging knuckles and trigger fingers. Sold a bunch of shotguns and rifles that were too short |

| Get a slip on recoil pad they usually add a 1/2 " to the length of pull, make a handful of spacers out of 1/4" plywood to fit in between the recoil pad of your gun and the slip on pad this will let you experiment with the LOP and determine what feels good for you..... For example my sporting clays gun is 15 3/8" LOP yet my field guns are 14 5/8 as I wear different thicknesses of clothes and I am not all ways standing straight and tall when I shoot in the field...You want to be able to mount your double quickly and smoothly with out it hanging up on the front of your armpit with the clothes that you anticipate shooting in Good Luck with your project |

| Do you like the pachmyer better than the limb saver or the EZee recoil pads? |

| If shooting a .500 at paper I use a limbsaver, on game no need but the .500 has a 14 7/8" LOP. The reason I mention the Pachmeyer is that I have two american shotguns with bonkers 13 1/2" LOP which leaves my elbow sticking out like you wouldn´t believe, the Pachmeyer adds an inch and makes them a lot quicker, best |

| I'm in the same boat. I'm 6'3" and 240 and Nothing out of the factory fits me. I have always had to put the thickest recoil pad I could find on every new rifle I got. I finally went to B & C Medalist stocks, don't like the synthetic but I can order them in my length of pull. |

| I have never owned anything but an off-the-rack gun and every one seemed to come with the same LOP, 14.5 inches to the front trigger. I am six foot two, weigh 210 pounds, and wear a 36-37 sleeve length. I must be Mr. Average because all of my guns fit me pretty well. I am going to order a new Chapuis from Dale soon and I am thinking about a flanged .375 with that same length of pull or maybe a bit longer. Okay, I have to take that back. I just measured my little Chapuis 9,3X74R and it is 15.25 inches. Surprise!

| Damn, you guys are smart. I shot my Searcy today and put a slip-on pad over the existing recoil pad for the length. I also put a Past Magnum shoulder pad on for additional length. Front trigger never touched me for about 36 rounds and off the bench at that. A spacer and a leather cover will be a cheap fix but I may ask Butch to restock the double. I'm still learning. |
