cal pappasHelp .. Should I buy a .577 double ? Accuracy
The larger calibers will shoot just as accurately at longer distances as will the smaller calibers in double rifles. While certainly overkill, I've used my .600 Wilkes on plains game. By all means get a .577 (if you can't find a .600!).
Cheers and good luck.
Cal
PS. Remember, in this game it is not what is needed, it is what you want.

Yes CCMDoc we were all smiles!!! and as you know this is your buffalo .577.
The accuracy was much better than I could have expected! I happened to be reading in the book by Dallas about the 1883 Field magazine test yesterday and with Froome shooting for H&H they had mostly a clean sweep. As many of you would know the competition required five shots from each barrel at 50,100,150 yds. The average for them was for the .450 double .7", .500 1.7" and for the .577 1.8". Supports what you were saying Cal.
Looking forward to practicing for another Africa trip.
