Have you guys noticed that in the Barnes manual #4, there is not one single load for the TSX that reports 2150FPS. The fastest load is just under that and most are WAY under the nominal 2150FPS regulation load. I have to ask, what was Branes thinking when they came out with this data? I've tried everything in my rifle and it will not regulate either TSX or the banded solids. The closest I can get them is about 4" inches apart at 50 yards no matter the load. This rifle will shoot Woodlieghs right together at 50 as well as some banded round nose solids that I bought from Geroge Hoffmans estate. I've given up on the TSX and the BBS. I guess I'll be shooting Woodleigh softs and I still need to find a solid as I have a limited supply of the Hoffman bullets. I'd like to find a square nosed solid that regulates but I don't think it's critical. Has anyone else had this issue in the .470 with the new Barnes bullets?

You might try the 500gr Swift A Frame as a Soft. It and the 480 Woodleigh Soft have performed nearly identical in my 450 No2. Now that North Fork will be back up and running I would try some of their Flat Point Solids. In the mean time I have also had very good results with Woodleigh Solids. Thanks, The obvious answer is to just shoot Woodleigh softs and solids. I've had good luck with the Woodleigh solids and softs in the past as well. I've never tried A-frames in the .470 but have had great luck with them in smaller calibers. I was really trying to make these Barnes work but I have to say I am disappointed with them. I guess I've fallen victim to the Square nosed solid fad I will try some North Forks.

Isn't 2150 fps out of a 30 inch test barrel at the proof house in Birmingham? But out of a 24" barrel, wouldn't 2050 fps be closer to reality of a field load of Kynoch ammo?

Yes that is probably correct however my gun is a 24" gun and is regulated at 2150fps. In any case I can not get the Barnes TSX or BBS to come together at any velocity. They simply refuse to properly regulate in my rifle? I've run the BBS loads from 2000 to 2200 and they go from about 6" apart to about 4" apart. I guess more than anything I am a bit frustrated that I can't make them regulate. With the Woodleigh or even the old blue Barnes (which I don't like to shoot) in the thing at the same velocity and the rifle is just under an inch apart at 50 yards. I am not going to pull my hair out over this as the rifle obviously shoots well with quality bullets. It just bothers me as I don't fully understand why this is happening.

Have you tried:- - changing primers - changing powders - changing the Seating depth of the bullet I have found this can make a difference. If Woodleighs or something else works, is it that important to have the others working ?

I just loaded some Barnes 500 gr HP and Flat Base Solids. Used Federal Brass, Federal Mag Primer and 116 grs H4831 SC for practice loads. I will be using the Federal Trpphy Bonded Ammo for my upcoming Buffalo hunt. My Hodgen manual calls for 114/119 grs of H3841 SC for Barnes Bullets. 119 grs shows 2159 fps.

I could be wrong but I thought there were good posts and advice in the past about not using monometal bullets in a double rifle. These posts were by "500 Grains" and others. I once tried to get Barnes "X" bullets to regulate in a Heym 470 double amd it disrupted the silver solder of the rib besides fouling the barrel. The fouling I got rid of with an Outers electrolytic process; the rib had to be repaired by a gunsmith. Woodleigh bullets work great as softs and solids in my current double.

I am confused here with these loads as I get 2,150 fps with 110 grains of H-4831 and Woodleigh bullets. 116 to 119 seems awfuly high to me. 465H&H

We used to drop 110.0 grains, but we were getting a lot of muzzle flash. We increased to 114.0 and flash went away. I am using Hodgon load data.
