I finally decided on a double. Have corresponded with and I am going to order a Bradshaw falling block double in 450NE. I guess I will have to be patient for around 18 months... Smiler

Good choice. The wait is the hardest part. I speak for those of us who got in early. Patience is a virtue, or at least that is what I am told. Smiler

Norsk, it will be worth the wait! Too bad you didn't have the chance to talk to Bailey face to face, because he is top drawer, and does great work. The rifle you get will be something to be proud of! I live about 80 miles from Bradshaw, so I may see your rifle before you do, as I drive close by his shop on my way to see relatives in Louisiana!

Unfortunately I am still waiting for my .500, but I know the wait will be well worth it.

This is pretty funny. So many guys blast the Blaser for the auto safety but praise a falling block. Go figure...

I am not seeing the similarity to the Blaser s2...the hammer is automatically cocked as the block is closed

As I mentioned in another post Bailey has added equipment and changed some process. Both will speed up manufacturing times and quality.

The more I look at the Pictures of that wood, the more enamored I am by it!

Got a reply, he says the wood suits the gun he will be building for me (strong, dense and cut right). So if it is 3500 usd wood for 1500 I can't resist. Have to find out who to pay though...

Will pay the deposit asap and check out with my local gun-Office if they apporve me changing the licence I have on a 470 to 500NE. Going 500 if they approve. If not 450NE.

About new equipment and procedures increasing output, I hope quality doesn't suffer...

450NE (31/4 or NO2?)
470NE
500NE

I know which one hits hardest. Going to hunt Buffalo, no plans on elephant. Getting .500 bullets from the USA is difficult my Norwegian Midway distributor told me. Made me wonder if I should og for 450 or 470 instead...

Bailey said the 450 would be 1/8 of an inch slimmer than 470 or 500. Not sure if that is noticable or how much weight it ammounts to.

Would have preferred 416 or 450 rigby but no rim... 500/416 is a bit too obscure (tried it before). Bailey only does rimmed cartridges right? Even though his action will handle those higher pressured cartridges fine. Must have something to do with his extraction design?Trying not to bother him With too many questions (have seen gunsmiths get bogged Down by eager costomers before).

Though not a double man, ED HUBEL of AR, makes
a great argument for NON-bottlenecked cases. Less
case trimming, case life improved to name two
points. So 450 NE, 475 NE and 500 NE fit that
school of thought. In the double you are getting,
you can just choose to load a little hotter; as a man
with the Ruger #1 might choose to do with any of
those calibers. The Farq can take the pressure.

While starting with a 450 NE caliber rifle, you might
choose to have the OUTER muzzle diameter large
enough to handle the .483 diameter bullet of the 475
NE. Then you can have the bbls bored out when you
shoot out the bores. The brass is the same for both!

D/R Hunter

Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

I too am having Bailey make me a rifle. I will be getting a 2 bbl set 375 flanged and 470 NE. Been a lot of critters killed with both of these cartriges. I like the 470 because it is the easiest to get components (brass & bullets)for.

I am sure that many of the other big bore cartriges are "better", but if we do our part these should work.

Maybe 5 years ago, but not today. I've never found any problems at all getting components for the 500NE. For Norske, outside the USA, that could be a different story however. Even then, the 450NE would have the easiest time of finding bullets for since it shoots the same bullets as the 458 WM and 458 Lott.

I have payed Bailey the deposit and bought the wood from Larry. Since I am waiting in line, I have time to think about alternatives.

I saw a thread with pictures where Rusty shows off his 28 gage droplock from Bradshaw. I was thinking maybe I could have a 375 flanged built on the same action... What would you guys prefer (if price is similar), the falling block or droplock?

I love my 28 gauge that Bailey and Aaron made. As rifles go, I would want the double fallen block!

You are probably right. Falling block is probably the way to go... Droplock is a cool novelty though...
