http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976713644.htm IN looking at this rifle it states its built on a 577 frame,,, but what's with the stepped barrels, Is it due to size of frame compared to size of chambered round? Looks like it is nice shape. My only comment being that it is a bit heavy and clunky for a .450/.400. I've seen step downs like that before. It sure would keep the weight down. If that thing had full length thick tubes on it'd weigh about 15 lbs. Over all it is a fine looking rifle though.

Handled this gun at the Tulsa Gun show. Its is not chambered for the 450-400 it is some wildcat. You would have to have a chamber cast done and replace the barrels. The gun would need a sleaving job about 3,000 to 3500 job or send off and have a set of barrels made, about 10,000 you choice you will have $11,000 with cut up barrels or 17,800 with new barrels and it not that kind of quality of a rifle. George at Champlins has a jeffery for 11,900 that would be a better buy. 505ED DRSS Member

Given the weight of this turkey, sleeving to .577 would seem to make the most sense, but I'm not sure that's possible due to the way the barrels are fretted. Frame is too big and heavy to mess around with it for smaller calibers. ------------------------------------------------

A 500NE 3" might work, but I definently wouldn't let it stay a 450/400 3"! I would, however, salvage the old barrels and use them to sleeve in a smaller action! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

I have seen this stepped bbl arangement on other Cogswell&Harrison doubles. Is it possible this was a 577 BPE that had new bbls made in 450/400? DOUBLE RIFLE SHOOTERS SOCIETY

My thought too. It looks like the old barrel set was cut off and used as a monobloc (not a continuous barrel stepped down) and new barrels fitted into it. "Experience" is the only class you take where the exam comes before the lesson.

GEE! ya thank so? This rifle could not be sleeved back to 577NE, or even 577BPE, because it wouldn't allow enough chamber wall! The closest you could come is a 500NE, or one of the .450s made on a 500NE case, like the 500/465NE, or 500/450NE, 450#2NE, 475NE, all made on the 500NE case! Of course if the rifle was origenally a Black powder, or BPE proofed rifle, the selection would be a little smaller. In any event, it will not be cheap! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

That's exactly what it is. It would be a 450/400 3 1/4 not a 400 Jeffery. The barrels would not be monoblocked. I don't think the stock is original either despite what they say. It is heavy but I bet the weight is between the hands.
