A few days ago I had the pleasure of getting a copy of my good friend and fellow Alaskan Cal Pappas' new book, the British Bore Rifle, so I want to take this chance to make a shameless plug to my fellow bore gun afficiandos. Shameless because a few of my guns are in it (along with a few others here on AR)!
I just finished it last night and it truly is a worth while read for those interested in the biggest hunting guns ever made. About half of the 400+ pages is history and load info, hunting stories, etc, and the other half devoted to eye candy from 4-bores on down. I've been interested in bore guns for many years and there was a lot of information (particularly in the history section) that I'd never heard of before. As a result my reading list just grew a bunch as I now must research some more of the old Africa and India pioneers I just learned of.
Cal is on AR so I'm sure you could PM him or contact him through his website calpappas.com.

While playing with my wife's camera this afternoon learning the settings I took some gun photos, so here's the book with suitable surroundings:

What folks are saying about the British Bore Rifle:

The books came today. Extremely pleased with both! Very well put together books and I really like the high quality gloss paper. Thank you for taking the tine to put together these wonderful books, it must have taken a long time. Also thank you for signing both. I have already started to read the Bore Rifle book and I am really liking it.
Charlie H.

Your book has arrived.  And it was better than I could have imagined.I've written you a letter of thanks, but while I still have your attention, Thank you, my friend!  It’s a beautiful book.
Don W.

Hi Cal, Gary H. checking in with you today. I have some very good news to report. My Book came in is mornings mail. Life is good today. Boy, does it look great! I really like the heavy paper stock and all the color pictures in it. Great job in signing my book to me, very well worded and written. Later tonight, I will be able to sit down and go through it and do some serious reading. What a great edition to go along with my .600 Nitro Express Book. It looks like you have hit another Home Run with your new British Bore Rifle Book. Many Thanks Cal. All the very best to you. Bye for now. Gary H.

Thank you for the two copies of "The British Bore Rifle."  What an incredible job you did on this.  It is the encyclopedia for all those interested in these rifles.  It will be some time before I have explored it all.  The photos are uniformly excellent, and what a fantastic variety you have uncovered over the years. George H.

The book will be a collectors item for sure. Will G.

I read most of the book last night. I loved the history section; lots of new info I hadn't heard before. Rob S.

And you, too, will be pleased with the work! I’m home mose evenings for phone orders and email orders are placed anytime. Don’t forget about the discounted rate for the .600 NE book!
Cheers, all, and thanks for the kind words.
Cal

PS. I will drop media mail due to complaints about the long delivery time and slightly damaged book corners which the post office's insurance will not cover. They only cover severe damage, destroyed, or lost.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Thanks for reading my works. The reason I don't use any big words is because I don't know any and even if I did I would not know how to spell them. I'm a product of the public school system. I don't know academics and the three Rs but excel in the new 3 Ss--Sex Scialism, Self esteem. That said, I do know some four letter words.
Cheers,

I recieved my copy here yesterday. It is perhaps the finest compendium of this type of rifles, that actually saw only a short period of action during the Victorian period where Britain had its biggest empire.
The use of these borerifles decline along with the British empire too. As the book describes quit well, it pushed the upper limit what a man could handle in recoil.
