For seventeen years I have used the TB solids, I use to know the late Jack Carter, and I would get a mess of them before heading into dangerous game territory. I've always been overly pleased with their performance and they are more barrel friendly on my doubles than the Woodleighs which I also like very much. I just picked up a couple of boxes from Midway for my 470 (by the price I know Federal is very proud of them), thought I would shoot a few to see how they regulate. They shot OK next to my Swifts but I noticed that after I shot them the rifling in my barrels looked like a golden candy cane, a cleaning nightmere. I had never had them foul that bad (granted there is greater contact surface), my question is, does anyone know if Federal changed Jack Carter's original TB solid formula because the old TB solids never fouled that bad, thus, the older ones might have been of a harder make-up? Federal changed the composition of both the softs and solids to make them easier to mass produce. DB Bill aka Bill George | |||
