Originally built in 1891 according to the Dallas book, likely as a .450 3&1/4"(charge on buttplate reads 4 drams Curtis & Harvey's #6), rebarreled during the Nitro era by Purdey using Whitworth steel barrels to the .400 Purdey cartridge. The engraving on this rifle is outstanding, Purdey quality throught out. Still carries the Purdey barrel blue. The rifling remains strong with a some haze in the grooves forward of the chambers, not real pitting to speak of. Tight and on the face, eveything works as it should, the Jones under lever "snaps" into place with a spring assist.
