Ran into a strange one recently. A friend of mine has an Austrian double rifle that was brought in with 22 Savage Hi-power ammo. On examination however this ammo and rifle didn't go together and the extractors have the conventional pins for rimmless applications. In front of the barrel flats are 220 markings on both barrels. We've been told it was an early 50's Flaigs gun. Wonder if someone has an old catalog and can see if they ever sold doubles in Swift. We're going to have chamber casts done but thought there might be knowledge out there with AR readers. Please email me at edelundberg@msn.com Thanks, Ed Edward Lundberg

Flaigs sold all kinds of Austrian/ferlach guns some, one of a kind so it's entirely possible that they sold a .220 swift but my guess would be that it's something differant. While .22 H.P. would be a logicle choise and British makers chambered some double rifles in this cal as well as being popular on the contenant it is possible that if it is a rimmless cartridge it could well be a .222 rem. I have a Borovnik bbf chambered for .222 Rem that was marketed by Flaigs and has the log cabin logo engraved on the trigger guard. one other possibilety is that on rare occations the plunger type extractor was employed on guns chambered for rimmed cases because in a pinch rimmless ammo could be used. I have a 6.5x57R bbf that has the extractor groove for the rim and a plunger resessed into that. It could be possible that this rifle is chambered for a 5.6x57R. This cal could come in ether rimmed or rimless. When you cast the chamber be sure to do the barrel at the same time. Most .22's will have a .223 dia bore. A .22 HP will have a .227 bore and remember (cerosafe/ spelling?) will shrink by a couple thousanths. DRSS NRA life AK Master Guide 124

I thought one of the virtues of cerosafe, was that it "doesn't" shrink a couple thousanths? DM
