So getting 500@2400 fps could be doable within low-moderate pressure, no case sticking etc?

Quickload says a 450 NE #2 can get 2400 fps with a 500 grainer at 48,000 PSI with H4831SC.

Arrgh. That made me think about changing my order (not started build yet) from droplock break action in 450ne to fallingblock 450no2 regulated 500gr@2400 fps... hrrrm...

The .450 No. 2 is very cool. Brass is available too.

Go with the Falling block SxS. It's unstoppable...

Correct bullet placement, combined with the required depth of bullet penetration, results in an anchored animal...

Sounds like the 450No.2 is the logical answer.
The thicker rim and base build will help with handling the high pressures you are looking for.

"... A 500 grain bullet with an MV of 1900 fps has a poor reputation for performance on DG... A 500 grainer at 2100-2300 fps has an excellent reputation on DG..."

Hmmm... That is something to ponder.

The problem would be getting regulation ammunition supplied to Bailey... Unless someone trustworthy can reload 500@2400fps with say H4831SC for him to regulate with. I live in Norway and exporting reloaded ammo would not be feasible...

I think the problem is you need a rifle to work up /test the load in before settling on a regulation load.
Better solution have it built in .500 NE and go kill everything. After all you are building a .45 caliber and trying to make it shoot like a .500

Easy answer. Get a Ruger #1 in 450 NE and work up the desired load. And I'm not trying to make a 45 cal shoot like a 500, but I am trying to get optimum performance out of a 45 cal in a double. Optimum performance for a 45 cal, to me, is around Lott velocities, say a 500 grainer at around 2300 fps.

I am absolutely Shure I don't want to be the one shooting that load in a Ruger #1. Full house .458 loads were all I wanted.
