I would like to know if anyone would be interested in buying the Sabatti double rifle As a group?I know they have had a bad rap,but my understanding that the problem was fix and I do know that Cabela's didn't carry them at one time,so maybe we can find out the importer And work with them.

This Cabelas ad is dated September 2014. That is right now and it says they are the sole US distributor of Sabatti doubles. Did I read it wrong? http://www.cabelas.com/categor...Rifles/107030880.uts NRA Life Benefactor Member, DRSS, DWWC, Whittington Center,Android Reloading Ballistics App at http://www.xplat.net/

That is old copy. Anyway, Cabelas was not the actual importer; USSG/EAA was. I would contact Sabatti directly, if I wanted to import some of them. The middle men, importers, just take money and actually know nothing and can do nothing; they are just a stumbling block between the seller and the maker. Closer you can get to the maker the better.

fore Cabbelas got in the mix they retail of the Sabatti's was less than 3K. $2300 sticks in my mind. Just remember that you get what you pay for. Cheaper isn't better! My Sabatti, outshoots my Chapuis, and didn't need to be re-regulated for the scope mounts it came with. Depending on what the group by was, I might be interested in acquiring a second. Only Angels and Aviators have wings

Mine too, shoots better than the last Chapuis I got, for which I paid extra to have regulated with the scope. Which is wasn't.

My Sabatti 500 was one of the best shooting doubles I own. I shot a bunch of buffalo in OZ with it. Loved carrying the little light weight gun. It did finally have to ribs come loose after about 1000 shots. I sent it back to the factory and got the gun back repaired at no charge. Would I buy another one, probably not but if they would have built them right the first time they would not have been able to make them fast enough. Lots of people got good ones that didn't have ground muzzles and were properly regulated. Those are happy people. Most people will never shoot a big bore double enough to ever find a problem. I'LL bet Cabelas wishes they had never heard the name Sabatti. They would not help me at all when I had problems with mine. I really think if someone wants one they can find one cheap out there without doing a group buy. I think there are a few good gunsmiths out there that will fix the bad ones for very little money and make them right. In the smaller calibers there are other makers that are much better for close to the same money. In the 450-400 and up you are getting a deal at $5000 even if you have to spend $1000 on it to fix it.

I have an outstanding shooter in 450 NE. In fact it has outshot others I have shot or owned. There are good ones out there and mine had no issues so I believe that if you can get a good one, they are well worth every penny.

I like mine, however the bases that came with the rifle do not match with the rifle. Does anyone know which base to use. thanks hartley

Use the base that fits on the rib. It is a Weaver base that screws onto the rib on the large bore doubles. Small frame, I don't know. Which rifle do you have; small frame or big?

I love my 450-400 as well. A few things I would consider if doing a group buy. Have them use a good recoil pad, increase length of pull, possible different sights and possibly some consideration to the type of wood. NRA Benefactor TSRA Life DRSS Brno ZP-149 45-120 NE

I changed the pad and shortened the LOP in mine to 14.375." It made the rifle WAY more comfortable for me. And I am an average sized guy--5'10" and 188 lbs--which is 20 lbs too much. My point is optimum LOP will vary for each person, and too long of a pull is as bad as too short of a pull.

I own three Sabatti doubles and am pleased with all three. One is a 470 Nitro and it shoots about six inches hight a fifty steps and about 3 to inches or less groupe from both barrels. My 45-70 came with super trigger pull and is very accurite and will group less than two inches at fifty yards. The 9.3 - 74 R also shoots to the point of impact at fifty yards and I have a triggeron scope on it and set the crosshairs half way between the point of impcat for each barrel cutting the spread in half to hit better. As for the quality of Sabatti Its a matter of finding a gun that has not been ground on at the muzzle and none of mine have. he U.S. Importer was in Fla and I have no use at all fro them amd who ever the sob was that used a roto file to grind the muzzles down should be hung by his b--s and a fire build under him and he should be rosted alive, What a sorry sob. I found a super double gunsmith that told me the barrels on a Sabatti were very well made and the soider used on them was soft soider and the barrels could be regulatered for about $750.00 with no problem. I dont care for the recoil pads they come with nor the big brass sight on front but this is no problem to change out. My advise would be to make sure Your Sabitti does not have the muzzle ground on and shold Yours have grinding they can be cut off behind the grinding and then reregulated to where they will hit right and this should not cost more than a $1000 to do. I have been told by a number of better grade gunsmiths that the Sabatti barrels are of very good quality. I have shot over two thousand rounds of 45-70 thur my Sabbitti and about the same or more thur the 9.3-74 and maybe 500 or so thur the 470 with out any problems at all. I can only speak from My personal exdperence. I would have no problem recomend Sabitti to anyone and would advise them to check the muzzle for grinding and should the gun have it adjust the price to get it reparded right. Good Luck on Your Hunting and Enjoy what evergun You choose. PS,,,My writing may look strange as I am having a hard time seeing I just had eye surgry sorry. Texas Man

Who is the gun smith that you are referring to in case I run in to a great deal on a 450/400?

A picture worth a thousand words, how about two. This is the type of the performance I got with my Sabatti 470NE with one of my hand loads that I pulled from the loading manuals. Best regards Malek Good Hunting/Shooting and God's best. Best regards Malek Good Hunting/Shooting and God's best.

If I remember correctly you said before that you have also put 1000rds through a 500?? double Searcy?? and perhaps the same number from another double?? My question is why so many rds from such big guns? Not that I find anything wrong with that, but I was just wondering if the purpose was offhand target practice? If it is not I don't see any purpose in doing so.If it was for offhand practice did you eventually switch to a lighter chambering?

The company that I talked with bout reregurlating the barrels on a Sabatti is NECC in New England, Phone number 603 287 4836. I dot remember the Mans name but He is a very infromed and nice man. I found out the silver soider used on Sabatti barrels is soft soider and not silver solider and there fore can be reworked. Hope this is a help to You. Texas Man

Hi Bill: I must admit I had a good day at the range that time. I know the gun is capable of better than that, I pulled that 3 right shot a bit. I bet there are some one out there that can ring out the potential of this Sabatti a bit more than me. There is a seller on one of the classified websites with "new" Sabatti doubles re-regulated by a smith, but I can't remember his name. I really came close to getting one of the 9,3 guns when they were deeply discounted. It would be the easiest way for me to get experience with a DR, but there are some fine Chapuis on the market for $4500-5500. I meant to be DSC Member...bad typing skills. Marcus Cady DRSS

Buy the Chapuis. | |||

My experience with Chapuis, is that you'd be better off with the Sabatti and putting the rest of the money down range. The bigger bores may be different, but in the smaller bores, I can't see a reason to pay for the Chapuis name, given the performance. Only Angels and Aviators have wings

I have Booth the Sabatti (perfect muzzles and trigers) and the Chapuis in 9.3x74R, both are scoped. the Chapuis is a very beautiful rifle and extremely accurate (tack driver) out to 280 yards so far. Never the less I enjoy shooting my Sabatti more, it fits me better, I like the way it balance and feels while carrying it in the field and locks up like a vault. Although very accurate but not as accurate as the Chapuis so far, but I am not done developing loads for it yet. If I would let go of one of them,(God forbid) the Chapuis will be the goner. it is all a matter of preference. Best regards Malek Good Hunting/Shooting and God's best.
