Mind giving me a crash course? I'll be going to an auction that has one of these. Price ranges, things to look for, any usable information. Everything else at the auction seems to be junk, except for this piece.

Serial Number 81374

No other information given.

Thanks!

I buy Mauser actions, parts, micrometers, tools, calipers, etc. Specifically looking for pre-WWII Mauser tools.

There's not enough information to work with here.
Does 'royal' mean that there's a crown engraved or emblazoned somewhere on the rifle?
Where are the photos?

Consider:
bores
-are they rough, pitted, dark?
hinge
-is the rifle tight on the face?
finish
-how is the blacking, how is the action metal?
ribs
-are the ribs and barrels still joined, not loose?
wood
-how is the head of the stock, wood/metal fit, finish, is the wood been repaired anywhere or is it oil and solvent soaked?
general
-has the rifle been modified or obviously and/or excessively refinished?

That's a start.
You'd want a good understanding of the action type too so that you can have a chance at evaluating the fitness of the locks, triggers, and safeties.

cheers
Tinker

Shotgun being the optimum word.

Still worth going to look just in case it's wrongly described.

The Uzi would be a good buy.

The website says shotgun, and most likely it is, though after talking to two people at the department it is clear that noone there knows squat about firearms.

Since we do not really have a shotgun forum I posted here, sorry! I maybe errantly assumed that the same principles would apply?

500N, the UZI is on my list... Smiler

Since it is a cop shop
the gun was used by crooks
Maybe the barrels are sawed off
Just a thought
