Hambrusch Doubles

FrostbitHambrusch Doubles
I'm interesting in hearing honest opinions about these Austrian Doubles from anyone who owns one or has owned one, or from anyone with much experience with them.
I only know one person with one and he is happy with it.
There don't seem to be many in the secondary market. Do they not make many or do people hang onto them.
Thanks for the opinions.
Cheers
Jim

505EDThey are top notch. I have handled a few. A gent I knew in San Antonio had one that was stocked left and right handed and is now owned by 500grains. I also know of one more in a 470 owned by a friend of a friend. They are built well and as of right now the base on a boxlock (new) is around 30,000 us. Harpeet Brar uses one--and so does Paddy Curtis. Top notch!

BiebsA friend of mine has Harpreet's 500 NE that he purchased when Harpreet took delivery of his new Hambrusch 577. He likes his.

FrostbitAny idea what a new Hambrusch 500 NE might cost? There's very little information on the net and not many used ones out there either.

BiebsI'd say a bit north of $30K with normal options. There's 2 on Guns America (500 + 470) for $16K-ish.
23 October 2011, 22:10
505EDWell that's why I said about 30,000 us. Biebs is right. The last time I saw a price (2009) it was 26.700.00 euro for 450/400,450,470,500. Witch would be close to 37,500 US...maybe a tad more now.

Thanks Anton. I did see those two. I just couldn't find any on Guns America. I think Biebs meant Gun International.

FrostbitAnyone else care to weigh in on the Hambrusch? Anything negative?

BiebsFrosty, I think you've been elected to buy one, shoot it, hunt with it, then report back. :-)

Does this come with an honorarium to help me buy it?

BiebsI'll have to get back to you on that. :-)

Heym SR20I don't have a double, but I do have a 16 over 7x65r combination built by them in 1974. It is beautifully built with an alloy action and accurate - can put three rounds into 1" at 100 yds. They built several guns which were then labelled "Heinrich munch - Aarken" - he was a top end dealer and would guns made in Ferlach for his clients. Have spoken / emailed advice from Peter Hambrusch and very helpful in getting mine set up after I bought in a holts auction three years ago.
Haven't a clue what their big African calibres are like as I haven't seen one. But I suspect they are very well built as well.

Heym SR20Keep an eye on some of the auctions - holts in particular - they often have a few Ferlach built rifles and they don't seem to command the money that they are are worth (when you look at the craftsmanship, steel quality and cost new) - especially over and under rifles. I paid just over £1,000 for mine, and this included claw mounts with zeiss scope. Just to have a claw mount fitted is getting on for that sort of money. Peter Hambrusch quoted me 15,000 euros plus to have a similar combination gun built today.

FrostbitThanks!! The Holt's auction site is fun to poke around.

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.
