WEll I was cleaning the safe yesterday and came across an almost new EAA SXS that I had bought for my wife to shoot Cowboy action. It is now collecting dust. It wouldn't bring much on a sale so I got to thinking.

The EAA website list barrel inserts in several calibers for around $150 each. One being 45x70. Anyonw tried these? Did they work at all? I was thinking 45x70 cast bullets open sights not much further than 50yds.

Or should I sell it for what I can get and add it to a Sabatti fund?

As usual just my $.02

I have 2 of the 45-70 tubes. They work pretty well.

Here is a link to another forum that i posted some pictures and some groups at 50 yds.

The regulation will only ever be as good as the original shotgun though

Dang had to remember my nitroexpress password. Eeker Anyway the swiss cheese did work.

While not a $10000 double rifle it does appear to give you enough accuracy for hogs or deer. Plenty if you remember to aim a touch higher for the one barrel.

Did you elect to just keep them and forgo your other idea?

No the 20ga DR project is ongoing. Here's the link.

http://forums.nitroexpress.com...=0&page=0#Post162146

The tubes only work with the screw in choke 12 ga 2 3/4" 20" barrel model.
I added the rib and sights.
I shot at a DR shoot with it and the one barrel shooting lower did not show as much as during the load development off the bench.

The kits come with 2 off centric bushings, I have not played with mix and matching the bushings yet.

I also plan to make my own bushing to correct the one barrel.

I have $ 600 bucks into it and for that kind of money it is lots of fun to shoot.

As long as you have the screw in chokes you will be OK,
Is yours an ejector or extractor model ?
Has to be extractor only.
Look at your extractor, if it is only on the lower half of your chamber you will not neet to fit the tubes, If it goes from the bottom to the top of the barrel, you will have to fit the tubes, ie remove the rim from the tube as the extractor on the tube is smaller than on the gun.
If you need help or pictures let me know.

It is the extractor only. bottom inside 1/4. Looks just like the picture on the Eaa website. I did print a copy from your manual link on Nitro.

When they get here and if it doesn't make sense I'll take you up on your offer.

Looking at your targets you reference IMR powder but I couldn't see which number?

Since I have about 5# of 4895 guess I'll start there. What bullet? I was thinking about cast.

Thanks

The loadings from the targets were 4198 with the Hornady FTX ( Flex tip ) bullet.

I have load data for 4895 using 300 gr cast and Sierra HP, 385, 405, 485 Cast.

PM me and I will give you the info.

Any progress ?

This is mine.

This is in Paradox mode with extended screw in Rifled Chokes from Colonial, I live in a shotgun only zone.
The sight for the 45-70 and slugs shoot to same point at 50 yds

Looking forward to an update.
