Gentlemen and Ladies:

The 2019 Alaska double rifle shoot is planned for May 4 and the range reserved. The good news is we are back at Birchwood! The Mat Su Range was wonderful in they accommodated us when Birchwood cancelled in 2018 but there was just not enough room. You may remember the rifles on tables and my rifles on my tailgate. If it had been raining we would have been in a jam. Also, with so many nice rifles to our back security was a question.

So, here are the details for 2019:

Place is the Birchwood Range at the north Birchwood exit off the Glenn Highway, a few miles east of Eagle River.

Shooting begins at 10am with a few locals and regulars showing up at 8am to set up.

The range is paid for and reserved so there is no range fee to be collected by the range officer but we would like to ask those in attendance to contribute 10$ to reserve the range for 2020. Any extra will be donated for food.

And, speaking of food, can we rely on the two five-star chefs, J&J’s catering service where the finest dishes are delivered in a pickup camper?

As always, all are welcome, we feed you, and we don’t charge for ammunition. Come and enjoy yourselves. One or more overseas guests are expected as well as several from the flatlands of the Lower 48 states.

Please RSVP so we can plan on food based on attendance.
Questions? Email Cal at <pappas@mtaonline.net> or call 907-495-4505 evenings, Alaska time.

Rob will bring his doubles and machine guns.
Cal will bring a dozen or more doubles, 350 to 4-bore.
Expect a few howdah pistols.
Ron, Dave, Todd, Hank and many others are expected to attend and bring their treasures.
We will set aside one table for “for sale” items.
J&J hopefully will be the chefs.
The Alaska men will bring a variety of drinks, chips, snacks, etc.

Cheers, all.
Cal

Groete van Suid Afrika...

I will be returning to the US on business 27 Aprl til 27 May. I will be in Alaska approx. 01-18 May and would like to attend. One of my homes is in Eagle River. I will stop in Colorado Springs and pick up a Merkel .375 H & H double and a .45-70 double. Ammunition is a problem. Is there someone who might have the time to load up a hundred rounds of each of the above? Generic 300 grain .375s and some mild 405 grain .45-70s. I will, of course, reim burse all expenses. If you have an Alaska USA account, PM me with details and I'll transfer funds in advance of work to cover components. Will be there at 0800 to help with setup. Cal, please PM me; I'll contribute to the fund.

Totsiens...

Dave:
I don't have dies for the two calibers. However, if you will be here on the first, we can get some at a guns show and you can come to my place and reload if you wish. If you want to do this, I will buy the dies as we have a few gun shows between now and May 4. I can get bullets, powder, cases, etc. unless, of course, someone else reads this and can do it for you.
Cheers and see you there.
Cal
PS. No worries on the expenses for the shoot, at the most it will be $10 to cover the range fee and JJ for their food.

Cal and Dave, I've got dies for both and a couple thousand 375 bullets (300 Hornady round noses and nosler partitions) and at least 100 405 jacketed 458s here in MT. Heading back to Eagle River tomorrow and can hand stuff off to Cal at the gun show if that works for everyone, just let me know.

OK, Dave.
I will buy 375 and 45-70 dies, also some brass, at the next gun show. I will also get some bullets of each caliber and a pound of powder for each, unless a powder such as 3031 will work for both.
I will have ll items here at my house on May 1 for you to reload you own ammo. I have scale, press, etc., so you'll be set to go.
Cheers,
Cal

Cal, I've got everything you guys need (RL15, RL7, bullets, dies, primers, 100 new 375 cases, I have a LOT of components) with the exception of 100 pieces of 45-70 brass, so that's the only thing you'd need to purchase.

Just return the jugs of powder and fired brass and dies at the end of the shoot and we'll call it good.

I use 68.0 grains of RL15 with 300s in the 375 as a practice load and 40.0 of RL7 with the 405s in 45-70.
