FrostbitDouble terminology questions
I know this guy named Brett that keeps insisting I need a double. I do my best to ignore him but he is a persistent booger.
I have enjoyed looking at ads on Champlins or other sites. Seriously, who can skip looking at some good gun porn.
I have noticed terminology in the write ups that I don't understand. I have searched older threads here and figured out some of the terms and their meanings but what is.....
1) bushed strikers
2) Scalloped action back
Thanks to MacD37 for your older post on chopper lumps with illustration and your description of Greener cross bolts and doll's head.

Then you'll be looking seriously for a "Twin Tubed Dream"

Scalloped action has to do with the shape of the back of a box-lock action where it fits against the wood on the sides! Two pictures below!
The bushed firing pins Below or "STRIKERS" is the screw-in bushing around the firing pins (strikers) so the pins can removed or replaced from the front of the breech avoiding having to take the rifle apart for this purpose!
Double rifles or shotguns with bushed strikers are usually also fitted with a trapdoor pistol grip cap with an extra set of strikers and springs inside!
Hope this helps! I agree with your friend you need a double rifle!

Mike BrooksAnd there are bars dovetailed into the breech, driven in sideways covering both strikers.
Morris Hallowell's site has a very good area with the definitions shown..( besides he has some good gun porn too)

Rhyme of the Sheep Hunter
May fordings never be too deep, And alders not too thick; May rock slides never be too steep And ridges not too slick.
And may your bullets shoot as swell As Fred Bear's arrow's flew; And may your nose work just as well As Jack O'Connor's too.
May winds be never at your tail When stalking down the steep; May bears be never on your trail When packing out your sheep.
May the hundred pounds upon you Not make you break or trip; And may the plane in which you flew Await you at the strip.

Yup, and scotch tends to evaporate in his presense. Hey Brett, I might not be buying a double but at least I'm talking about them.

FrostbitMac, thanks for the detailed post.
Mike, thanks for the suggestion to Hallowell's. He's got some gorgeous bolt trash on there.
