Am working up loads for a .348 winchester DR. ( I belive the gentleman I bought it from posts on this site)Anyway, I really like the rifle. With the exception of a few loads, it groups both barrels around an inch at 50 yards. The right is always just under the left. The only problem, anything over 2000 fps. croses over at 50 yards. Factory ammo, 200 grn. bullets are running in the high 2400s. They also are some of the worst groups. So, I'm stuck with a 250 grn bullet in the low 1900s. Load density (or lack of it )is one concern. The other, is how effective will that bullet be out to 150 yards on hogs? Or, is it worth having it re regulated, or sell it and the merkel and start over?

I would try to find out from the maker or the gentleman that sold it to you,what loads and bullet weight this rifle is regulated for,I would also try heavier bullets than 250's and a slower powder,best of luck,hope you get it working right,should be a neat little gun for most game !

Just out of curiousity, can you tell us more about the gun? What make? Who built it?

I've heard of only one other 348 in a double. They must be rare, although it would seem a perfect round for a DB intended mainly for N.A. For any who happen not to know, it's the flanged 1930s Winchester round intended for the Model 71 heavy lever gun that was discontinued in about the early '50s and was brought back under the Browning name. It's 30-06 type ft lbs.

I believe there is not a hog within 150 yards of you that is safe if you have this load on hand. Unless you are shooting a hog end-on that bullet will exit. IMO

Rifle is made by Josef Winkler of Ferlach Austria. Has 24" barrels, side by side. Extractors. LOP is a bit short, just under 14" Has engraving of leapord, bear and elk or red deer.Splinter forearm, two triggers. I have thought for a while that the .348 win would be the perfect north american, non DG, double rifle. If it would group, and regulate with the barnes 220 grain bullets at 2300- 2400 fps, I would be completly satisfied. But for now, I'm going to work with the slow 250s.
