i shot 4 rounds yesterday and 6 today. my cheek bone is tender. i was wondering if more lop might help?also does anyone know what size the recoil pad screws are and size of the stock bolt? thank you
i have a galco slip-on recoil pad.... i dont need it for my chapuis DR in 9,3... but it helps my ruger #1 .458 win mag fit better....it's not a cure, but something like it will help you decide if the LOP is too short...

Take that rifle to a good smith, and have a recoil pad installed properly. That is a quality rilfe that deserves some respect!

mac the slip on pad is only to check lop not permanent at all. i ordered a graco adjustable butt plate again just to mess with stock fit and try to get away from the cheeck slap i am getting. any sugestions?thank you
When shooting a shotgun and get slapped in the face by the stock it's ususally because the pitch isn't correct. If you're not familar with the term, it's the angle of the butt-plate with respect to the barrels.

db bill, thank you. this rifle has 6 degrees of pitch.in your opinion should i add or subtract some? i can grind some cants to put between stock and pad not permanant just for try fit. thanks again

If it hits you in the face, it doesn't fit. You need to take it to a gunmaker.
Yes, pitch plays a role, but a minor one in comparison to other variables. Incorrect cast and poor comb shape are the usual culprits. Correcting this is not a do it yourself job. --------------------------------------------- "Serious rifles have two barrels, everything else just burns gunpowder."

I had the same problem with my Chapuis 9.3. I had the comb lowered so that I could more easily use the open sights. Lowering the comb also reduced the amount of drop comb to heel, and the combination of effects has helped with the "slap". I put a leather pad on the comb to raise my head for scope use. As I will nearly always use a scope, the pad is not a problem. It's also easy to remove should I ever need to do so. FWIW...DuaneB

thanks 400 and duaneb.i will primarily be using a scope so will wait untill it is mounted to check fit before having any changes made to the stock.is there anyone in alaska that could help with fitting? thanks again
I'm not sure what you mean by 6 degrees of pitch as I've always seen in listed as so many inches of "up" or "down" pitch.
If the pitch is what's causing the face slap you need to move the top of the stock back by putting a shim between the recoil pad and the top of the stock (heel)...just back out the screw a bit and put about 1/4" of cardboard there and try it.....if it seems to be less slap then try a bit more...it's trial and error.
