Nicely done but rather unexicting, wondering why the toplever has to be pushed by hand? My two Heyms work fine without this, interesting that he wears electronic ear muffs in the field, would definitely help people with bad hearing like me.

Well edited clip. I like the juxtaposition of the hunter's eye versus the bull's eye, the hunter's feet versus the bull's feet, etc. Also the facial close ups.

You are correct, my doubles dont need it too. He has to close it a little (ony a little bit) with more "power".

What I like at this clip:
The focus is at the hunt, outdoor, animals, pp. ...not on the killing

I am curious about the extra top lever movement and the piece of steel that was retracted when he moved the top lever after closing.

Cal?

The rifle is new and "tight" that's why he had to move the level. A few more rounds and it will lock up on it's own.

Nicely edited video. Nice to see some good production values!

No, sir.
Ist an 10 year old double, very extensivly used (like Ivans), but refreshed in the Heym factory last spring.
And now: Back in buisness in Africa, Uganda and Tansania.

I am not sure why he has to push the lever to close. It could be that the rounds are not chambering properly-the bullets could be pushing into the rifling. When the rounds fit nicely into the chambers and they can be removed easily by hand then the lever should close automatically.
Looking at it again you can see the round on the right barrel is sticking out just before he closes the action. The rounds should fall in by themselves and make a popping sound. They should also be flat faced with the barrels before the action is closed.

That is as far off the mark as your shooting. The failure of the lever to snap back into place is due to the tolerances around the Greener cross bolt . . . perhaps the greatest double ever made does not include a Greener cross bolt.

There is a piece of steel protruding on the left side that retracts as he moves the lever the second time. I didn't think it had anything to do with the cartridge.

Not withstanding George's lack of understanding of the Greener Cross Bolt actuation, how, pray tell, does one expect the cartridges to sit flat faced on the barrels with the extractor/ejector mechanism in the up position, as they always are in a DR that has just been opened?

Please, any new folks here, do NOT listen to ShootaCow if you are here to get the straight scoop.

Could it have anything to do with avoiding the clicking noise when closing the gun? Just wondering?

When I used to hunt in India with a shotgun 30 yedrs ago & earlier, I used the lever to close the gun to avoid making any noise - a very old H&R single BTW.

Naki,
I did think of that as well, but being close to game the gun would be allready loaded,& after the first two shots, the noise would not matter,I agree with Rusty, this gun is tight, very tight, because it is refurbished.

Absolutely! All high quality doubles are tight when brand new, and many need to have the lever pushed into full battery till about a couple of boxes of ammo is pushed through the barrels. Most are hard to close as well.

A double rifle should be fully broken in before it is taken in the field for any dangerous game!

This video has the wrong music. Makes you feel sorry for the elephant. Makes it seem like the hunter is reluctantly killing the elephant.

A little exta manual pressure to secure the leaver is allways a good plan "but" it appears the crossbolt did not activat at all with the closing of the action??

Yeah, that did not impress me at all. And though I like the look of the rifle, the video missed the mark, too. Showing the elephant close up, standing peacefully before the hunt began, made it look a bit pathetic; the hunter with no visible client, toting his own rifle in the 'African carry'; wearing only a baseball cap and long hair to keep the sun off his neck; loading the cartridges one at a time. It all seemed wrong to me - but I guess I've come from watching old-time movies.
