Just kind of curious what most folks preferences are? My new Sabatti is a bit longer than what I find comfortable on my double shotguns. It shoots nice for me, I just have to be a little more deliberate when I mount it. I don't really want to fool around with something that works..I guess my question is What is the gain, or reasoning behind a longer pull?

It keeps your thumb out of your face/nose when you fire the rifle. You want it long enough to do that but not so long that it is cumbersome to mount. Your physical size will tell part of the tale on LOP, but your mounting style is equally as important in determining LOP.

So if you think it's too long (based on how you have to mount the rifle), then it probably is.

Cut the stock down... it's just a little wood: easy to take off and harder than you know what to put back on.

The proper length of pull is what feels right to you. Keep in mind however that you might be wearing less bulky clothing on an African buffalo hunt that when sitting in a duck blind.

Personally I fudge an 1/8 to a 1/4 inch for this very reason. My Heym DR has an LOP of 15 1/8 my actual LOP is 15 1/4 to 15 3/8 thus the LOP I have for the rifle compensates for a light to medium light jacket yet not so short that it does not feel right if I shoot it in a t-shirt.
