Shooting two shots with a double is easy but what about four shots? Any suggestions on technique with an extractor gun? Where do you keep the other two cartridges for speed and easy of use? Any tips would be appreciated. First you slide the Kick Spanner forward. Sorry could not resist that. I practiced alot before going to Africa. I used a Texas Hunt Co belt, but felt the shellholder held the rounds too far apart. I used a different leather shellholder on the THC belt with the shellholder in the front of my body on the right side. (I am left handed). Shoot, break the rifle open, A small flick to the side and the rounds will dump. Start pulling the rifle in my shoulder while reaching for two fresh rounds. I do not grab the rounds from the end, but by the side, drop them in close the rifle and it should almost be lined up on target at this point. I posted this video once before, this was several weeks before I left for Africa. http://s135.photobucket.com/al...70Nitro200-09-19.flv

One of my PH's and others here cup two spares in the palm of their forward hand, bullets pointing toward the breech, while gripping the barrels. Shoot, open an ejector, open and dump an extractor, and then slide the two spares into the breeches. Works well for my PH, who shoots a Kreighoff 470. Works well for Surestrike who had a 470 Searcy, may still have that rifle. I load from my belt with my left hand because of damage I sustained to my right wrist as a child - I'm left handed. And also because I frquently load from a belt when duck of goose hunting, so it is natural and my defualt reaction. But loading from a belt is slower than the method Surestrike and my PH use. The "between the fingers" method shown in some books and movies, and advocated by PHC just isn't practical. For one thing, even if yo can secure two large base NE cartridges between your fingers, the cases are pointing in divergence, so no just slipping them into the breeches. JPK Free 500grains

Dave: With a flanged nitro non-ejector double, after the second barrel is fired, move the thumb of the shooting hand up to the top lever and shove to the open position. As you begin to drop the butt from the shoulder, push forward firmly with the shooting hand. This movement will naturally cause the muzzles to be slightly elevated when the gun is fully open and the extractors at max lift. If your chambers are good to go, the action will clear. No twisting, flipping, or jerking should be required. Reload in the normal fashion. For the first reload, from between the fingers of the forward hand is probably fastest. After that, it's from the belt. ----------------------------------- "Serious rifles have two barrels, everything else just burns gunpowder."

Mike: Das kickspanner is gut! Just got back from the range. I am going to practice more shooting four at a time rather than just two. I set up four targets (two water jugs and two clay targets) and started on the left. Broke the two water jugs, opened gun, tilted barrels up and empties dropped out. Pullet to new cartridges out of right pocket, put them in as I was stepping to the right and pow, pow, shot the two clay targets. Damn, do I love this gun! The only problem I am having is probably pretty common to guys who wear glasses. The first shot knocks my glasses askew. It used to knock my muffs askew as well but I ditched the muffs and just use ear plugs. Sounds like your chambers are fine. Go back to what I said above about pushing forward with the shooting hand as you drop the butt. That will cause the spent cases to fall clear as soon as the action is fully open. That way, the action is clear as soon as it is open, exactly the same as an ejector, and reloading the chambers is the same for either type, so there's no difference in speed. The motion is actually quite natural, and there's no EXTRA motion required. The unnecessary twisting, flicking, etc., is just wasted motion and time. ------------------------------------ "Serious rifles have two barrels, everything else just burns gunpowder."

Dave, Mark, Mike and Mississippian, we should bring about three or four video cameras, and tripods down to the ranch, and film this from three angles so it can be edited into an instructional film for the DRSS membership. ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

You see the hands at the bottom of this post, and at the top of the page? This is the way the loads are dropped into the chambers with the method JPK's PH does it, and that is the same way Old Elmer did it as well, those are his hands. .......... ................. ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

Biebs, it wasn't quite that bad but it sure torqued my gut when I forgot it, and tried to shoot it with the safety on. I assure you that will not happen again! 4 seconds flat,36 of a posible 40 points and got beat by three shooters with rifles that had more recoil, because of that damn auto safety! ....Mac >>>===(x)===> MacD37, ...and DUGABOY1 DRSS Charter member "If I die today, I've had a life well spent, for I've been to see the Elephant, and smelled the smoke of Africa!"~ME 1982 Hands of Old Elmer Keith

I thought it went like this 1. Animal is sighted by porter and PH 2. Porter hands loaded rifle to hunter 3. PH tell you when to shot. 4. You fire both barrels 5. PH takes over 6. Porter take rifle from you and reloads it and closes the action for you (How civilized) 7 you take rifle from porter only to notice the PH has saved your civilized butt by pumping four well placed rounds in the heart lung area which is about three feet north of where you shot and just pissed the animal and the PH off. Or something like that. In reality I'd like to have enough money so I would not have to close my own gun www.KLStottlemyer.com Deport the Homeless and Give the Illegals citizenship. Thanks, it is Krieghoff 470 Nitro. It was purchased from another AR member as an anniversary gift from my wife. It has been to Africa twice, killed an elephant on the first trip with its previous owner and an elephant and buffalo with me this year. I like the rifle, it fits me well and I love shooting it.

I thought everyone knew that the best technique for four shots requires a bolt action rifle. Mike Wilderness is my cathedral, and hunting is my prayer.
