Has anyone developed loads using a 300 gr pill in their 450-400?

I shoot both 300 and 400 grain bullets in my .405 DR.
It was regulated by Aaron Litle with 300 grain and if you are interested, I will check my records. If I remember correctly, the 300 grain loads regulated at around 2250 and the 400 around 2100 fps.

Hello Bill,

I have used the 300gr Hornady bullet over 80 grs of IMR 4831 in several of my 450-400 3" and 3 1/4" doubles and got the same POI as the 400gr bullets. Makes a great practice / hog load.

If I recall I was getting 2250 to 2300fps or so with the 300s.

I have been able to use that same 75% rule in my 470 and my 500/450.

I've sold off all my doubles now except for the 470 Evans and the Holland Paradox so it's been a while since I shot that load but I recall it was very pleasant to shoot out of a 9.5 to 10lb gun.

Bill, hope you are well. Miss our DRSS shoots! I've used 61-63 grains of RL15 and filler with 300 grain Hornady flat points and spire points. Also for a plinker and deer/hog load 36-37 grains 5744 and same bullets (as well as some cast 300's with no filler. Bob

The 75% rule generally works, or at worst givew you a place to start...Since I only use my doubles to shoot DG as a rule I never bother and besides the heavy bullets have shot better in all cases best I recall and I also don't like messing with a double once I have it tuned to perfection with the 400 gr. bullets in my favored caliber the 450-400s. I play with the bolt guns in such cases..
