It would have been in my safe by now if it had been a 450 NE,bet the price would have been higher as well.

if that is all that is holding you back, you need to have another look.

You could probably fire Light Nitro loads in it.

And yes, the price would have been significantly higher if it was NE.

But as an example of a Alex Henry, you can't get much better than this.

I agree that is a fine rifle,& I am sure I could fire light nitro loads in it,but I would want to use it for big game & light loads just would not do it for me,one of these days, maybe an old school 450NE or 450#2 will find it's way to my gunsafe Smiler

True, the 450BPE is not a dangerous game gun but don't let the term "light nitro loads" mislead you.
The original NfB load put a 365gr bullet out at a bit over 2000fps which will certainly put down any animal in North America when used with the proper bullet.
If you don't own a black powder cartridge rifle, you should. There is no more enjoyable rifle to shoot (IMO) than a BPE whether using a NfB load or a good dose of genuine black powder. And a BPE double is super easy to keep clean since the barrels come right off.

These hammerless Henrys are a funny thing...
There are times when there are none at all on the market and then all of a sudden three or four pop up for sale or at auction.
One of these will find its way into my collection too some day. They are simply beautiful guns and I have never heard of an Alex Henry failing to deliver in accuracy.

It will put down Big Water Buffalo as well.

I saw one head shot at 60 yards by an experienced hunter - he isn't normally one for head shooting but it was facing directly at us and covering the one we wanted.
I have no doubt in my mind after seeing a few others drop to body shots that it is a more than
capable round in Both BP and Nitro for Black.

Agree.

I notice Champlins has one for sale as well.

I am pretty sure the gun at Champlins sold a while ago.
IMO, it was the better of the two (between it and the one Barnett has).
Man! I need one of those! tu2

I owned both the one at Champlins and the one pictured above. Did considerable research on them prior to selling them. Lovely guns and very well balanced. If they had been NE I would have kept them both. I shot both black and nitro for black in both of them.

Although I loved them both the rifle Barnett has was my favorite. They both shot well with smokeless. The rifle George has at Champlins shot black better if memory serves and accounted for boar and deer. Barnett's rifle was well documented and was a very attractive rifle. I wish they had been NE's.

I've got one of these but in the 577/500 Magnum. 3 1/8" case. It's a sweet shooting gem!

I just got my copy of john Taylor's book on big game rifles & cartridges (I can't remember the actual title though I have just started reading it 2020 )!

Taylor clearly says that the 450 BP express with 365 gr lead bullets was lethal on DG!

How different is that to a 375 H&H & 300 gr bullets?

To the animal close in, not that much !
Hit it in the right spot and bob's your uncle.

At longer ranges is where
you see the difference, IMHO.

(I'm not including Elephant in the above).
